Roon Question

a Little help with Roon if possible.

My current NDX is not roon endpoint enabled as far as i am aware. I am testing Digout from the NDX to a Chord Hugo1 which is Roon ready end point, i think.

If i was to setup roon Core on my PC (currently runs AssettUPNP with music on a NAS) what part will the NDX still play in the setup ? Or does it not ?

Also i assume i would not need Assestt anymore either ?

Thanks

Rob

Alas neither the Chord Hugo or NDX are Roon endpoints.

If you want to get a feel for Roon you can connect your PC directly to the Chord Hugo via USB.

The cheapest (but by no means too sonically challenged ) endpoints are Raspberry Pi with a Hifiberry HAT. This allows you get the PC out of the music room.

as sjb said:get a pc/mac or a raspberry or sonore rendu or aries mini all those can work as roon-endpoint. from there, you connect digital-out to NDX in (spdif/coax).....

But don’t forget Hugo (unlike HugoTT upwards) does not have good RF blocking and is susceptible to the inevitable RF from a computer adversely affecting sound quality through ground plane modulation, so some means of isolating will be required, whether using optical output, though that limited by the computer soundcard’s capability, or using an isolator in between.

I am looking for a Roon ready endpoInt to feed a digital coax input on a Naim ND5 XS.   The very popular microendu and ultraendu are USB output.  I’ve wondered about tacking on a Sonore USB to spdit converter or perhaps the Schitt Eitr to get to an spdif input.  An alternate approach would be a Digione box.  I’m impressed by the high regard people have for the Sonore boxes but am leery about introducing USB and a converter as compared to an endpoint that can output spdif directly.  I’m more than a little confused.

Apparently, you can connect an Ipad to the USB on the front of the NDX, as the Ipad is a Roon endpoint. I haven't tried it but info on Roons site.

Auralic Aries mini has SPDIF and Toslink out I think. Also Meridian 218 has an SPDIF out.

I am very curious about the Aries mini and would be especially interested to hear from anyone who has compared it directly with the DigiOne player.  I'm not familiar with the Meridian.

This is a good, simple way to get Roon running on a ‘legacy’ streamer. Of course, you still need the Roon Core running on a separate computer or NAS too, but it’s a good way to trial Roon using hardware that you probably already own.
