Will my pet wood pigeon survive the Beast From The East?

In 2013, I posed the question, will my pet wood pigeon survive the winter.

Well it did, in fact it’s survived a few winters, which is surprising considering its bottom beak is missing. Most mornings it sits on my roof or nearby tree waiting for me to come and feed it a large portion of peanuts.

Today it was unable to feast on nuts, they get pushed down into the snow making them difficult to pick up. But it turned out OK in the end.

No advice for a pigeon... but it’s so cold here one of my chickens laid a frozen egg!  The weather isn’t stopping them sleeping on the outside perch though from what I’ve seen!

(okay so it probably wasn’t frozen when laid)

You should see my goose that lays golden eggs.

Is she saving up for an ND555?

Nice post Fatcat,

I have a seagull that waits every morning and always throw up catfood which hasn't been eaten. On to my roof,Its nice having a creature you can help in this chilly weather.

Seems a bit ironic that two cats on the forum each have a tame bird. Both fattening them up for some ulterior purpose, perhaps?

I’m saying nothing. But I do only feed it the best quality peanuts available.

Not many birds to be seen today, only a wood pigeon, a magpie, a blackbird and a couple of long tailed tits. Usually the gardens full house sparrows, hedge sparrows, robins, chaffinches, ring doves, blur tits, great tits and flock of long tailed tits.

She said in goose lingo that Naim better hurry up and release it because she's nearly past her prime (I'll continue to love her regardless of her 'apparent' decline in looks: what a beauty! I can't wait to eat her!).

I have been looking all day out of the window, and haven't seen any tits. Must be too cold for them to come out.

Out for a walk at lunchtime today (because weather precluded my cycle to work), and the only bird I saw was a pied wagtail, trying to get out of the wind, as indeed was I.

There must be a few knocking about.

In this weather probably Blue.

More snow today had to abort a planned trip to south essex. But the consolation was a field fare and a redwing, very nice.

Very nice Gazza.  We were visited by a rather plump looking Fieldfare yesterday afternoon, which then proceeded to demolish what remained of the rose hips.

We even had a visit from a Woodcock to the main feeder, which was a real surprise.  I sometimes see them when out walking around the woods and fields but I've never seen them venture into the garden.

The Fieldfare has taken up residence in the garden, sheltering behind the patio steps. He looks pretty grumpy, but then so would I if I was stuck outside in the icy wind and blown snow.

Nice pic Tony,  my daughter sent a phone pic (via the conservatory windows) showing four that have taken up residence since the snow started,  like yours they hunker down against her wall(s) & garden room.

After going missing for almost 2 months,  I now have a garden full of Redwings,  slightly confusing as they are mixed up with the resident blackbirds,  but looks like around 10 hopping in/out & around the hawthorn hedge & raiding the seed & old apples left out for the blackbirds.
