NAP300 Burndy
Posted by: S3 on 02 March 2018
Does the end of the Burndy on the NAP300 with the faded band / collar go to the amplifier or to the power supply?
I assume the collar should be at the amp end and have located one Burndy easily but the other Burndy just will not lock. I’m wondering if I’m trying to fit them the wrong way round.
Any advice much appreciated.
Regards
David
Thanks Tomser. Very odd that the Burndy collar will not lock on one lead. I’ll keep trying.
The collar not locking is a sign that the plug has not seated fully into the socket. Take the plug out and make sure the collar is fully retracted before replugging, making sure it's fully seated. The collar should then lock up when you twist it.
Sounds like it's not quite lined up properly. I found it quite difficult to get the orientation of the burndy right when I first fitted them (gradually turned it around until it slotted in a little and then 'locked'). Once I had got them fitted, I put a small sticker on top of the burndy at each end to make it easier for subsequent fitting when I move kit.
It might be easier to fit the burndies before you put the 300 in the final position (as its hard scrabbling around the back) i.e. make the back of the 300 easily accessible, turn the burndies until they slot in and lock them, put a sticker on the cable to mark the right orientation, disconnect everything, move the boxes and reconnect using the sticker alignment.
In my set-up the rings don't lock if the pins aren't correctly aligned i.e they need to be slightly engaged before I try to lock.

Thanks. I’ve got the 300 on a table away from the rack to do exactly that but I just can’t get it to locate. The other lead locates within 5 seconds on either channel but not this one. Not sure what to do other than keep trying. I can’t believe there is a problem with the Burndy as it’s brand new.
I take it that the troublesome cable fits the 300PS end ok ? (Just checking you have two 300 Burndy cables in the box)
Looking into the plug itself are all the pins straight ?
I had exactly the same issue when I got my 300 DR back home from the dealer's shop.
They ordered me a fresh pair, which worked fine, and on my return to the shop, agreed that they were having the same issues, and apologised for the fact that they hadn't unboxed the 300, and set it up. (some of their customers insist on unopened, "fresh from the factory" boxes, apparently).
So, don't drive yourself mad trying to get it to lock, speak to your dealer and ask them to order replacements.
Thanks Dave and all. Success; I finally got it to connect! Not easy though and I think I’ll ask my dealer for a replacement Burndy as it should not be that difficult.
Another quick connection question if I may. 272 analogue outputs - the two din to xlr interconnects for the 300. I can see that one goes into the left channel and one into the right channel on the amp (green and red collars) but the 272 din analogue outputs are not marked left and right channel. Does it matter which interconnect goes into which din output on the 272?

No - both outputs on the 272 are the same. Make sure you have the 300 XLR's the right way though - CH1 (left) green band and CH2 (right) red band.
Thanks James. Will do.
