Unitiserve irritations...
Posted by: Lewis on 04 March 2018
Hi, I am having an issue with my Unitiserve in that when I change the artwork via the app (as I cannot see how this can be done using the desktop version) it still stays the same when I navigate to the album via the Naim app through my Unitiqute. I've tried changing it several times and it just will not have any of it. Really annoying.
Also when I click to play an album when i'm in the desktop application it doesn't actually play it via the Qute, why is this? Or it will say 'playing xyz track' on the desktop app, but a different track is in fact playing through it which i've selected via my iphone Naim app. I would assume it would understand what track was being played through it and 'speak to' the desktop application?
Any help appreciated! Thanks.
Hi Lewis
Lets deal with these questions in order so:
A. Changing Art work
To do this you need the Nserve app which covers the Unitiserve and you should be able to download to your iPhone, so if you have that you
1. Click on the required album.
2. Go to edit in the top right hand corner.
3. Change Cover.
4. Web Search
5. Choose what you want and save.
6. You should see the required album art and if so job done.
B. Playing a track
You need to do this from the Naim control app and not the Nserve or desktop app. On your iPhone you should have 2 apps n-serve and naim, use naim to play an album or track. So on the Naim app:
1. Upnp
2. Select Unitiserve, this will be NASSCV etc.
3. Select albums.
4. Play the album required.
Please advise any more specific problems
Sorry and moreover, please ensure that the Naim app is picking up your Unitiqute in rooms
Just to add to Camlan's advice, all of which I completely agree with, the reason why you see the n-serve app or the desktop app showing a track as playing when your UQ is playing something else is that your Unitiserve is playing the track you selected in the desktop app and this is being fed to the digital output of the Unitiserve, which presumably you haven't got connected to anything, whereas when you select a track in the Naim app, it tells the Unitiserve to serve the track over the Ethernet to your UQ using upnp. I remember being confused about this when I first got my Unitiserve.

If you have changed the artwork via nServe, and the changes don’t show on the Naim app, you can force a rescan via the DTC. That should sort it out.
When I've done a web search within the app to find the correct cover, some sites just don't work. Tried another example and then it was fine.
Thanks fellas. I’ve changed the artwork via the phone app but it still remains the same when I navigate to the US via the Naim control app to play a track from said album. Forcing the rescan doesn’t work as the album isn’t found for some reason. It must have worked at some point as the tracks have names but never mind. I’ll have another look later and see if it works.
I have the same problem on my NS01. Sometimes I change the album art in nServe (either from a web search or from cover art which I've downloaded to my iPad [or even photographed when it's not on the internet]) and although it shows correctly on the artist page of the naim app, when I select it to play it still shows the old cover. I wouldn't worry about it - I've just got used to it.
Ah well I think the answer to that problem Clive is that you should ask the app to "Clear the image cache" which is in "Other Settings" when you click the gear wheel. That will force the app to go and get the updated artwork from scratch. Might well fix Lewis's problem too.

Thanks, David. I have tried that too on many occasions, but with only varying success. That shouldn't stop Lewis trying it though.
Lewis, please let us know if that sorts your problem.
My Unitiserve has a 'mind' of its own and of decides to serve music whenever 'it' chooses. My Android app also has a 'mind' of its own and also decides to work whenever 'it' chooses which is often the most inconvenient time for me. In both instances a 'soft' reboot uses resets their 'minds' but on several occasions they are akin to stubborn mules that refuse to work. Re-starting a Unitiserve is possibly one of the 'slowest' experiences tolerable to a frustrated and often already 'irritated' but seemingly patient loving owner. The shutdown sequence is also like waiting for a kettle to boil!

I know what you mean! But on the other hand many wonderful experiences require commitment and preparation. A good friend of mine has to warm his listening room so that his very, very, expensive cartridge will come out of its shell and excel. A gear wine needs uncorking and maybe decanting before it can transport the drinker to the heavenly place that it holds the key. So restarting your Unitiserve to get unfettered access to the greatest music is not a great inconvenience?

Clearing the image cache generally doesn’t do anything for me, but clearing the UPnP cache (in Input Settings > UPnP) sometimes helps.

As someone who has to reboot his US twice a day (it goes 'offline' - as reported by n-Serve and won't reconnect) I really sympathise.
