Unable To Connect Via USB

Trying to connect a Pioneer XDP 300R Hi-Res music player Via USB to Naim ND5 - XS Streamer. I am using an AudioQuest Dragon USB OnThe Go adaptor from Pioneer to Naim.

The Naim is unable to detect the device. I have been told that the Pioneer player needs to be 'A USB Mass storeage Device' to be recognised by the naim.

I have Hi-Res music on the player and would like to listen direct through my Naim system, Any suggestions would be appreciated. (Pioneer is recognised when connected to a Windows based computer)

Thanks.

If it were me, I would probably try analogue as a simple get you going way of doing it. I doubt the USB approach will work.

The ND streamers expect a USB stick, so your player is unlikely to work in this way (as David points out above).

Can you copy the Hi-Res music you have on the player across to your UPnP server and play through the ND5 that way ?

The ND5xs does not work like a USB DAC. The USB looks for a FAT32 formatted storage device such as a Usb stick or external hard drive. Is the Pioneer FAT32 formatted?  Maybe there's a special "file transfer" mode that will make it appear just like a USB storage device?

Easiest thing to do is to play straight into the DAC via analogue or else does the Pioneer have an s/pdif digital output? Otherwise, if the internal SD card in the Pioneer is FAT32 formatted you could try removing the card and putting it in a USB card reader/adaptor - that may work, but I cannot say for sure having never tried it.  Or.. get a USB stick that is FAT32 formatted, then transfer the Hi-Res files from the Pioneer to the stick (you'll need some form of computer here) and then play them through the ND5xs.

Thanks for your replies.

Yes I can copy HI-Res Files acrooss and play via UPnP.

I use Tidal and the Pioneer is able to play MQA encoded music, I wanted the facility to play this through the USB connection on the Naim.

I have contacted Pioneer, they said contact Naim!! Which I did, that is where 'USB Mass storeage device' Info came from.

Pity that the Naim DAC cannot be used. I have tried various 'Debugging' settings on the Pioneer Player, with no joy. I have tried connecting through the analogue headphone output, but this is not ideal.

It would appear it is the way The Pioneer stores the files preventing access. I have read that various stand alone Headphone DAC's work, but I do not want to go along that route.

If you want to listen to MQA files performing as intended, you need an MQA enabled DAC, which the ND5XS isn't, so there is little point in giving it a digital feed. If the Pioneer is MQA enabled, you could try using its analogue output into your amp.
