Hiline or 2 x Powerlines (equivalent price)

Posted by: Consciousmess on 11 March 2018

Dear all,

I presently use the interconnect Chord Anthem Reference (about £500) and have my system with all Powerlines except, the nDAC and the HDX - directly.  In other words, the 552PS, 500PS, 555PS all have Powerlines, but the nDAC and HDX internal power supplies use the supplied cable.

Now for similar price, I could get 1 x HIline or 2 x Powerlines. So, I am curious what the forum advises?? No I cannot afford SL, but feel I am missing out on more of what my system does.

Thanks

(Problems we face in the first world eh?)

+1 for the Hi-Line.

Resistance is futile

The power lines are an improvement.  Never heard anyone preferring the standard lead.

The HiLine is a different presentation but the standard lilac lead is very good too.  Make sure the standard lead touches nothing and make sure it is not pushed in all the way. This will give you a good part of the HiLine for free!

Yeah I am gravitating  towards the HIline as the 2 Headlines are on the less necessary parts of the nDAC and HDX.

What I find curious, however, is I recall the responses after the hiline release back in the day, but now such enthusiasm has diminished - my query arose from this.

What about 2 X power line lite's AND the hiline?

Just to be different...

Powerlines on a Dac and NDX were a big improvement for me - the digital side seems to like it too, so you might be surprised. I‘m not a fan of the hi-line (I have tried to be) - still have one, but currently preferring the standard lead and thinking about alternatives.

Neither - just buy more music

If the OP had said they had the Lavender cable in place I would have said the HiLine is a no brainer. Having both HiLine and PowerLines in my system, I can say that in my experience, the PowerLines are really the icing on the cake and definately the last thing worth doing. They do make a cost effective difference but for me, not until the rest of the system was sorted out. In the context of my system, 1 HiLine made far more difference than 3 PowerLines.

But the OP has a serious interconnect in place already and one which I have no idea as to whether it stands up well to a HiLine or not. I'd say that makes the decision consideratbly more difficult.

Any chance you could borrow?

If not, [@mention:44366773372132405] recommendation to spend it all on music seems pretty tempting.

Thanks for the responses. I’ll update this thread with the findings.

Hi line first

Be aware the hi line is extremely fragile and any damage affects the sound quality significantly.  Install it last and remove it before doing any other connection changes.  If you bump it it's done for.  It does sound great though.
