To be pedantic there is only ONE Cambridge University (okay there is the Anglia Ruskin University too) which is made up of multiple Colleges.

Today is Albert Einstein’s birthday. Stephen Hawking is in heaven, wishing Einstein happy birthday.

Would two obviously rational men of science believe in heaven?

I find myself in agreement Fred.

Albert Einstein was a follower of Spinozism and said of himself he was not an athiest calling himself agnostic.

Steve Jobs (I’m assuming the figure with Einstein is Jobs) was somewhat of a follower of Buddhism.

Stephen Hawkin however was a declared atheist.

Still a clever “cartoon”.

Yes, your right. Forgot that "university" is a misrepresentation.

Yes, your grammar would seem to suggest that you're perhaps not familiar with English universities in general.

He was truly a great scientist,  as great as Newton, Einstein.

We have lost a great mind, but thank you sir for your contributions to human kind.

Since when has that been a bar?!  ;-)

No.

I am sure he was really clever about the Universe and stars and stuff but it just feels like none of his theories/discoveries really affected my every day life.

I can understand those in academia, Science and the BBC wanting to nosh him off but that doesn't mean I have to.

If he had invented clothes which look good but don't need ironing or discovered some kind of oil or treatment that you spray on your hair which stops it growing so that you don't ever need to go to the barbers again, then I might be more inclined to get down on bended knee.

No offence Fred(?) but doesn’t your comment just sum up pretty much everything that’s wrong with this world?

“it doesn’t affect me therefore it’s not good/I’m not interested.”

This practically defines selfishness and is what has given rise to the recent so-called ‘popularist’  political movements: Brexit, Trump et al. It probably causes everything from religious intolerance to global warming, and possibly even war and famine.

THEBIGFREDC - What a dull existence you must have.  SH contributed vast amounts of knowledge to the human race, and let all of us dream a little.  What have you done lately for anybody?  Your remarks make me think that you're probably more than a little jealous of him. "So what if he did all those things - doesn't mean anything to me."  Makes you sound like you're about 8 years old.  Maybe intellectually you are.

No offense taken Rod.

I wouldn't call Trump a populist political movement, he is the leader of the Republicans, America's most  established and enduring political party, unlike say the NF in France or UKIP here.

Blaming me for global warming and Armageddon could be stretching it a bit although its nice to be acknowledged.

With this one docmark....I think I can reasonably take offense.

Re: the dull existence I must have - possibly, probably but it seems a bit presumptuous of you to claim  you know this as a fact.

Re: what have you done lately for anybody - I made my wife a cuppa this morning and took it up to her in bed. I also gave a work colleague a lift this morning who is having car troubles.

Re: probably  more than a little jealous of him - nope, this is an emotion I don't experience.

Re: having the intellect of an eight year old - I am very proud of my First class degree.

I never questioned his brains, I even bigged him up in my first para. I am sure he knows his white dwarfs from his black holes. And I thought he was good in the Simpsons.
