RIP Liam Og O'Flynn

The master Uilleann  piper Liam O'Flynn died today at the age of 72. With Planxty he was core to the reinvigoration and modernisation of Irish folk music in the '70s. He also played with  many major artists, and for poetry lovers his album with Seamus Heaney is a joy. A true master of the pipes, he's given me great joy both on record and on stage.  RIP Liam

Yes a big loss, young too. I take it from your name you have some Irish origins?

I thought that, it’s funny, you can tell from how someone writes and their style of English, Dublin man myself!

Met him many moons ago and had quite a few drinks with him before a gig. Had to get a round up for the table and on my way back I tripped and spilt the whole round over him and the rest of the band. Delayed the gig for about half an hour. Needless to say they weren't too happy. Not sure what made them more upset the loss of the drink or not starting the gig on time.

I was telling a lecturer who was from Dublin once that my Dad was from Kerry and he said to me , " Ah yes you can tell a Kerry man but not much!"
