New Nova Owner's

Hi Freedonsounds, congratulations on your new Nova - I had one of the first ones and I love it - it just gets better and better. Re you questions:

1. the favourites button just works for internet radio and should work for any radio station you can find on your Nova. Just pres the star when you are listening

2. Don't know as I've never tried a memory card but I'm sure someone will be along who has

Also, have another question, I also noticed that when I i first turned the Nova on for the first time and went into internet radio and went to WKCR-FM that the WKCR-FM logo was full Screen on the display face with no other information except for WKCR-FM. But now in my 2nd uses it does display full-screen at all. If fact, the Nova just reverts back to the home display on the screen. I would like to get the WKCR-FM logo to again display fully on the screen while the station is in use ? Just wondering if someone could tell me how to do this ??? Thanks

but if you hold the power button in it will power down completely

I've just tried this on WKCR-FM and it goes straight to the station logo screen although sometimes when you select a station it goes to the 'Now Playing' screen for a few seconds and then to the logo. You could try making WKCR a favourite, also have you restarted the App. Worth a try.  Thanks for mentioning the station though, they're playing some great jazz.

Thank you Daveas, I figure it out once I went through the app. The one thing I could not do is add the channel to favorites. Have you tried to add college stations to favorites ? and Is it even possible ?  

Another problem (well I don't know if it is a problem yet)  I've noticed is if you have a sd card & a USB stick in use at the same time, the display in the app will only show & play the sd card.  Why is the sd slot there ? Is it meant for a back up or is it ment for music playback ?

By the way, glad you were turned on by WKCR FM  I is the greatest jazz station on the planet & if you keep listening, you will see why ! Peace.

Assuming you are using  the Apple App:  Once you have the station playing, press the station logo that should appear in the bottom left of the app screen.  Then press the star near the bottom of the 'Internet Radio' screen.  I've just done it so it works, but I'm not so keen on the early music thats playing at the moment!

     I've not used SD or USB but I think they are just there as a playback source.

Thanks again Dave, yes I was able add wkcr to favorites. The problem was I did not have iOS 11 installed.

So, after 4 days of getting to know my nova I really like it, so far, so good, with the exception of one thing that I hope is not a problem. Today I connected the HDMI from the Nova to the HDMI ARC on the TV and nothing, So I double checked the connections and tried it again to no avail. So, I’m hoping that someone here may be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks 

It’s a long running saga on the forum. It would seem Naim follow the ARC protocol to the letter, but some TV manufacturers do not, Samsung being the one that crops up. I use the optical from my virgin box to Nova as do others, I do not have an ARC TV set.

Thanks Gazza, I have a new (few years old) Sony and have a sound bar running though one of the hdmi’s that works fine ! Will play with it a little more before placing a complaint. 

Do a search of the forum for Uniti hdmi arc, there are a few threads and some pointers from Phil at Naim on simple problems.

Freedomsounds a new firmware update is imminent in the next day or do, it will fix an hdmi drop out issue, if that does not work, contact your dealer.

The new firmware update just installed on my Nova.

So, can the firmware updates be installed while the Nova is in standby mode ? Just trying to figure out if it updated while I was away during the day.

Does anyone know the burn-in time for the Nova amp ? 

It took mine around 4 weeks of fairly constant playing, I am retired so played it during the day and evening.

It won't do it on its own. You have to consciously tell it to update. But I think there is a bug in the old firmware that gives the date of update as today, whichever day it is.

Has anyone had there Nova just shut down while using the optical connection for tv viewing ???

Mine did it twice in 5 minuets and it was not because of a power outage. It was like the unit crashed. When it happened the first time it just lost sound, I pressed the power button and the unit powered down, I pressed it again to powered up and the sound came back on. Then after 5 min or so, the unit shut completely down on its own, and then started to reboot. Just trying to figure out if it a internal flaw that’s common with this unit. Thank

I have a question, has anyone had a problem with the Nova once left on internet radio for a number of hours the unit randomly powering down ? This has been happening consistently. So, I am trying to figuring out if it is inherent or something I’m doing wrong ?

I only used this when running in leaving it playing quietly overnight, no issues.
