RP8/RP10 Rigid Foot Mount Kit - Anyone?
Posted by: Mr Frog on 15 March 2018
Loving the sound from my Rega RP10/Apheta 2, which has the standard factory supplied feet (rubber/plastic) fitted to the inner skeletal plinth.
Rega offer an ‘upgrade’ for both the RP8 and RP10 - a set of 3 Aluminium replacement rigid feet, which screw into the base of the skeletal plinth.
Has anyone tried these?
Hopefully, it will bring sonic gains ..... and not just be cosmetic ‘bling’ ????
I suspect results would depend on which base you have your RP10 set. What is your RP10 sitting on?
Mr Frog - just enjoy your RP10 and don’t try to tweak it for another year. You’ve only just got it....
Mr Frog, I thought you’d gone for the Rega over the Linn to avoid the constant itch to upgrade! I’d take Adam’s advice here....
Mr Frog, I think that the metal feet are not so much an upgrade as more of an alternative to use for certain surfaces. I specified a set for my own RP10 but only because I wasn't entirely sure whether I would use it on the Fraim or on one of my Audiotech tables. I wanted the option of the solid feet just in case performance underwhelmed on the standard feet. As it happened, I used the RP10 on the standard feet on top of the Fraim and it sounded really good, so I haven't felt the need to to try the solid feet. I may do so, but right now I'd rather be listening to music, which is sounding great.
PT, your comments may persuade me to try the metal feet sooner rather than later. What stand or surface is your Rega sat on?

Mr Frog, if you want a real upgrade, i recommend you to buy 3 ceraballs from finite elemente, they use ceramic ball inside and absorb vibrations. They are sold with inserts too. around 120GBP for three. I will have the rp10 next week and will buy these ceraballs for myself.
The rigid foot is simple aluminum foot... to replace the standard foot on the wall rega standmount for example.
In any case you need also a rigid platform too, granite, glass, or hard wood, minimum 3 cm.

sorry, but it seems a bit excessive all these 4 different supports. The medium wood stand and the aluminum legs are enough i think. Very nice turntable, what is the brand ?
Rega

It’s the photo - look at the SN2 knobs - they appear to be oval

Phew! Looking at the size of that butcher's block, I was worried he was about to lay into his turntable with a meat cleaver.

the butcher block is still not enough, there are some other feet underside....I would put a second butcher stand under .... « le ridicule ne tue pas »
Upgraded feet! What next, plinths, psu's, platters??
Rega TT filosophy is light and rigid. With that heavy support it will probably not perform as it should be.
A very good point from [@mention:54645535606705408].
Decent glass shelf is all that a Rega deck needs.

No glass!! A light and rigid wooden like shelf.
Why no glass?

it gives an unnatural brightness to the sound is my experience with Rega and LP12. Futhermore glass is heavy. Supports with metal parts i also do not like but i hear no negatives with my Pro-Ject i1 wall bracket.
You can't make such generalisations - on the right stand or rack, such as on a Naim Fraim, glass is fine and works really well with both an LP12 and a Rega.
Glass with fraim cups and balls on my oak rack has made a massive improvement to my RP8’s presentation so I’d respectfully disagree with that sweeping generalisation!

Ineed - it also somehow creates an impression that it permits one to be rude, for no particular reason.
Indeed however they tend to be 12 years olds, or have the mind set of one..
pt109 have a nice and balanced system, a good rack too. But too much support under the rp8.
Too much support kills the support... and sorry pt109, i was a bit rude.
For glass shelf, outside of fraim rack, it may add some brightness...but i said it may because i have not tested. With hard wood there is no surprises... For myself i use granite 5 mn shelf under my sme turntable.

i found an experience from a forum us member who put these rigid feet : a subtle improvement he said. a very bit better bass.

i checked at my dealer place the ceraballs to put under the rp10 today : unfortunately they can’t be adapted with their inserts. but they can be used without the inserts...
I will finally buy the rigid feet, in order to have an all rega rp10 turntable, as intended by the rega staff.
