Stands Still

Posted by: GraemeH on 22 March 2018

I was using Custom Design FS103 three pillar stands with my Proac Tablette 10 - the model recommended by Custom Design. Never entirely happy with them, I found them a bit - well - ‘wobbly’. This made even more pronounced with ‘Atabytes’ fill.

Today my dealer swapped them out for a pair of FS104 - the four pillar model. Much better rigidity and, now, nice solid imaging - more holographic - better integration top to bottom.

Just when I thought the system couldn’t sound any better, this simple change has proved me wrong.

It’s always rewarding when a upgrade works out so well. Enjoy

A relatively economic upgrade too, I imagine, Graeme.

It's few years now since I used bookshelf speakers, the last ones being Heybrook HB2s, but I remember being surprised at the difference different stands made.  Moving from open Linn Kan stands to solid Dreadnought Partington stands made a big difference to the bass, as I recall.

I use FS104 signature stands under my ATC SCM11 speakers. It’s a combination that works exceptionally well. Great to hear you’re enjoying the upgrade.

What were your previous speakers Graham? How do the Tablette 10 compare with them?  ????

S400 Chag but we moved house in October necessitating a smaller back to the wall model. Suffice to say I’m in love!

I use Custom Design CS104 signature under Spendor SP2s; I've found that it's very important to get all the socket head screws good and tight. I have the centre column 75% filled with mafeic sand.

Room and setup looking good Graeme there's something rather special with the Tab 10s.....

My Tab 10s sit on Custom Design RS303 the large 3 pillar design with filler weight around 40kg.

You have gone and done it now Graeme showed the wife your new stands and she much prefers the look of the FS104 especially in white to my RS303.

Mrs H thought I was bonkers paying for ‘an extra pillar’...(she may have a point!).

It just dawned on me the stands in that pic were the wrong way round (positioned not by me I hasten to add!). When rotated through 90deg they are a perfect fit for the Proacs.
