NAC102 Volume & Balance Pot motor noise through speakers.

Posted by: Guinnless on 23 March 2018

I've been wanting to get my NAC102 serviced but hadn't got around to it yet.  However I now have motor noise through the speakers when adjusting the volume or balance controls regardless of input selection or mute.  Removing the NAPSC and using the link plug is even worse - giving noise when doing input selection too!

I only noticed this today so I've powered it all off and I'm off to Class A Sheffield first thing  tomorrow with the 102 and the NAPSC.  Withdrawal symptoms will probably start by Monday

Hopefully Darran is not on a fortnights holiday (in the nicest possible way)

Seeing as I can't play anything at all I may as well take the XPS (Olive) as that could do with a service too.

Guinnless, it certainly sounds like it needs some attention. Hopefully Darran will have it working good as new for you in no time at all.

If you give him some advanced warning, he can often do a service the same day/while you wait.

He has done "while you wait" for me before.  I'm going to get my XPS serviced too so I'll drop them off today and collect once they are ready. It's only a 100 mile round trip and the Peak District scenery is nice too ☺

A couple of years ago I took 82, NAPSC, Hicap and 2*135s in, popped in to Sheffield d town centre for a few hours, he turned them all round in the day for me, and did a great job.

That's really good service.  I wasn't booked in though so I was happy just to drop off; and the fault may need a bit more time too. Its never nice when your pride and joy isn't working correctly and I do feel better having left it in Darran's hands. ☺
