HDX Help.... Has it died :(
Posted by: 2roomsor1 on 27 March 2018
Well, i have been looking through the forum to try and help. my HDX says 'starting' have it running on a fixed ip ........101 for screen and ........100 for server.
have turned everything of the network apart from my router, and still no joy.
with the laptop plugged in and using lan scan, the screen is on the ip address, but no sign of the server (checking mac dresses)
any help would be appreciated, i have been at this for a number of hours
Help
Switch off. Unplug. Leave overnight.
Try again.
I'd say turn off router as well, and try a restart after 5-10 min.
If that doesn't help, you can try Harry's advice
(I wouldn't expect overnight to be necessary but have no experience with HDX)

I've had this in the past, and found that switching off the entire network and re-booting in the following sequence resolved the issue.
1. Re-start router and allow to fully boot up.
2. Restart any switches in the setup.
3. Restart the HDX (make sure that once the HDX was shut down, you have fully powered it down via the rear switch).
The one time this failed to bring the HDX back to life was as the result of a clumsy shutdown on my part, where I had used the rear switch rather than via the operating system.
My local dealer was able to successfully re-install the software, which saved the unit having to return to Salisbury.
Hope this helps ............ fingers crossed!
Thanks guys. The problem is that when starting is on the screen you can not shut it down, it hangs. I had to switch the switch on the back
i reset the entire network and powered only the main router back up with no other devices on the network. That was the last thing at midnight
only thing to do now is try again before a trip to my dealer.
Was as contemplating pulling a hard drive out and backing up as my new mad has not done a back up yet
a long weekend with no music. Now that just not fair.
Thanks again
This happened to mine and I was talked through a reset by naim on the phone. It involved booting everything up and waiting for the network search before then plugging in the network cable...I think. It was a few years ago now.
Good luck,
G
ps. the thanks again was not a dig, just a thank you for the replies.
and no its not part of my upgrade plan as the wife is accusing me of.... new naim products on the horizon and my HDX breaks....
there may be hope, can you remember how long the 'waiting for network' is on before it boots up? i left it a few mins, but was in panic mode due to no external back up.
its tru what they say, if data do not exist in 3 places, it does not exist.
Mine went back for a corrupted boot sector, dead CMOS battery, and they also replaced the logo. Total cost was around £140 IIRC. So not a huge hit, but hopefully yours won't need it.
From day one I was not convinced of the safety of storing my music inside a Naim box. I went NAS early on in my HDX ownership, having established no playback quality difference. Or at least, none that we could here.
You boot it up without the network cable inserted - then insert it after ‘waiting for network’ notice appears.
Providing your network is ok?

If this fails naim can take control of your HDX whilst you are on the phone and diagnose/help.

Thanks for the info
I will see if i can get home early enough to try.

I had a old lacie NAS that i was using for a backup, when i out grew it, i moved to a qnap. i get plenty of security with the qnap, but can not seem to get it to do the duties of external store share and backup, (backup just dosnt seem to work?)
I should have prioritized getting that working, i will be moving the qute downstairs to plug into my dac if the HDX dosnt come back to life.
thanks for the info on cost
Hope you won't have to pay it. Good luck with it.
right, now it says
touchlinx loader safemode enabled
hmmmmm?

I think that has something to do with the screen software.
Best to email or call Phil Harris, (details on the panel to the right of the topic), who will sort things out for you.
If the suggestion is to return the HDX to base, then at least first try a visit to your dealer, who'll be able to hook it up to an external monitor, and see what's going on with the software, and may be able to re-install it for you.

email sent, thanks!
HDX is back and working fine.
The main board had an issue, now sorted. All music intact.
Now my Naim logo lamp is brighter than the rest. Must have been changed too. Lol
I am now thinking if I need my 252 servicing. It’s the lamp that is fuller than the rest.
