17.4kHz Mosquito Test

Just for fun I tried a 17.4kHz mosquito test tone, played through our system, on our pre-teenage grandchildren. Apparently they heard it loud and clear but Mrs NewNaim16 and myself heard absolutely nothing—as in zilch. No big surprise, although a little bit depressing but life goes on.

You should have tried 17.3kHz - that would have made a significant difference....

In part it depends how loud you play it...

I did this with our teenage kids with similar results. At once disheartening and hilarious.

We also did another test using a variable frequency sweep tone, keeping our hands raised until we could no longer hear the sound. Without even a frequency meter, the results were similarly revealing. And I thought that I had good hearing ...

Yeah, as you get older you cease to need the top end delivered well - or at all!
