272 on 250DR sounds like crap

Naim should be ashamed of itself, letting honest-hard-working people like myself audition 500 series level separates.
The sensation will fade and you'll be happy again.
Dealers listen to that stuff all the time but live with modest stuff at home quite happily (ish).
Trying things beyond ones means might not be the best thing to do if you have a compulsive personality.
Otherwise you can always take up another past-time, such as jigsaws or fishing perhaps.
Work harder. And the 500 series might arrive one day... Or maybe not?
I haven't heard the 500 series but I did get to hear 252/SC DR/300 DR this past weekend. It sounded great. Once I got back home and put on some tunes from my lowly 272 system I was very happy and the desire to upgrade from here is nonexistent. I think the 272 us rather good.
552 with 500DR and NDS. On naca5. And a NAS.
Holly s&*t. It's all I can say.
The Naim concept is that you add a power supply. Have you tried a PS on your 272?

Just so long as it doesn't sound 'broken'
Audition the Statement, then you can console yourself with the knowledge that the 500 series sounds like crap, too.
Statement and 500 series are crap too - when I win the lottery I'm buying an orchestra, a rock band, a jazz group and a singer-songwriter and having them play in my living room ...
... might be a bit of a squeeze though

Its only a hi-fi, don't worry about it!

It is a typical British (black) humor . The 272 is good as it should be, only 500 sounds better.

Simple, when you win the lottery you'll be able to afford to build a big enough music room to accommodate them all!
No problem.
We don’t like the rich!
I don't have a problem with Mr Dane!

Have to be the Euromillions jackpot then.
UK National lottery only OK for a decent music room and hifi system. (Hmm, I always did fancy the idea of concrete horns...,)

I think the average person in the street would regard most owners of Naim systems and discussing cables costing £100s/m as rich...

It is never ending discussion, a family in Somalia could consider average person in the street ( A European street ) very rich
But let me correct, we don’t like “ Statement” rich....

I'm afraid it is humour.

The 272 is as good as the Naim accountants allow it to be.

It is all relative.
Is someone rich if they save for 10 years to buy a Statement system but have no holidays, walk or cycle and not have a car, and have no meals out or any other luxuries at all, live in a cheap par of the country in a modest house and play only their already accumulated recording collection?
Or is someone rich who buys a new car (not a very fancy one) every 2 years, has a nice holiday staying in reasonably modest 4-star hotels every year, eats out a regularly and otherwise buys a lot of convenience foods, lives in an expensive part of the country in a modest house, but struggles to afford to buy basic Naim kit?
The latter may earn more than the former...

True, according to my experience. And this should definitely tell something very urgent to all of us.

No, it's not all. You could also tell us if any speakers were used.

One thing it tells us that if you spend all day at work listening to music you might want to do something else when you get home...

Yes, but it would also appear to be a real bargain and given that it is such a bargain I'm sure you could live with the crap sound.
