4.6 Update

Posted by: Dr Livingstone on 06 April 2018

This is driving me round the bend.  The driver, when it does install says CP 2102 and not 2101, as specified in the instructions.  Then, when the Naim app starts running it doesn't find the port.  I'm using a new Macbook and the USB mini cable has a standard USB on the end that i then have to connect to my laptop through an adapter, to connect to the lightning port.  Could this be the problem?  Two hours wasted last night.  Will i have to sacrifice the whole weekend on something that should be so simple?

The driver is for the CP 210x series of USB to UART adapters.  It doesn't matter CP 2101, CP2102, CP 2103 ... CP2109.  They all use the same driver.

Unfortunately I can't help with OSX.

See my thread; similar issue.  The specific CP number doesn’t matter, but the problem for both of us is that the driver doesn’t show up in the naim app even when the usb is connected.  I’ve tried it on two different Macs with different versions of the OSX operating system and had the identical issue both times.  Have never had an issue installing from a Mac in the past 5 years, however.

Evan

Thank you for the responses.

It was hopeless with the new MacBook laptop. I tried every conceivable variation of processes with no success.  Reading some other posts here I decided to dig out my very old Mac laptop, wound it up and although a bit cranky, it worked first time. Sooo simple. The drivers were already there. I’ve no idea what the problem was with the newer Mac. I can only assume the programme isn’t correctly adapted.

Anyway, I’m back in love with my equipment and the improvements are noticeable. My Unitilite and PMC 23s feel like a completely new and updated purchase. A weekend of listening beckons.

I also tried an older iMac after reading your post, Dr Livingstone, but I ran into a hardware limitation; the machine can only support 10.6 and the updater only runs on 10.7 and higher.  Wish I had something that was running an 10.7 or 10.8 just to see if I had luck as you have.  Back to the drawing board...
