Terminating NAC A5

Posted by: Got Hi-Fi? on 06 April 2018

This is for anyone who has terminated the speaker end of their NAC A5 themselves. Did you tin the cable first? I usually do that when soldering, but when it comes to audio, I see conflicting opinions that putting solder between the cable and the connector will degrade SQ. I personally cannot imagine that being at a level that one can hear?  The only other methods would be crimping, or clamping the bare cable to the connector first, then adding solder to hold it in place. What have you done?

When flowed properly, the solder gives a much better electrical contact than a low pressure mechanical joint.
To get a mechanically formed joint to compete requires sufficient pressure to achieve cold welding!

Don't know if any of this helps specifically, but worth a read:-

NAC A4/5 - Soldering, Plugs & "F" Connection.

Thanks, I will have to use that drilling holes in wood idea next time!

Yeah, I couldn't imagine cold welding this stuff either. Thanks for the info.
