Warning major bug with input volume and new firmware

Posted by: SimonPeterArnold on 07 April 2018

Hi all since updating to the new firmware I have come across a really nasty bug which affects my Atom, not sure if it does on other units. If I use an external input either digital or analogue and then switch to Internet radio the volume blasts out at an incredibly loud volume for a few seconds before normalising to the units volume setting. It scared the living daylights out of me when it first happened, not pleasant at all and I am worried this sudden blast could damage my speakers if this continues as it really is bloody loud. To not have it happen I have to switch to another streaming input first like Roon and then to Internet radio. Hardly ideal though.

So user beware unless my unit has just decided to have this fault since the update, was perfectly fine before. I have emailed support about this.

I’ve switched inputs between analogue, UPnP and iRadio with no such behaviour. This on a Star with the latest firmware.

Odd I can repeat it every time. I do have av fixed volume on my analogue input and this is what I am switching from initially. Wonder if this is the crux of the issue and it's not deactivating it when switching. Still happens if I go from analogue with av fixed volume to digital cd and then to iradio. I may try turning off AV fixed volume before switching but never had to do this before the upgrade. So somethings broken here.

You could try a factory reset.....

I "discovered this for the first time today on my Nova - iRadio went down (I accidentally powered off the router while doing some electrical work. When I noticed the Nova had gone into standby  I powered it on again (with headphones plugged in, as they had been), and got no response to input selections so I started trying different inputs, eventually getting the option of my favourites. Selected one of them, unplugged the headphones and "blam" - full volume - 100 (even though full volume on speakers should be 85 - I guess the headphone max of 100 over-rode this) - don't think I've damaged the speakers, or the headphones, but very worrying non-the-less.  The Nova sure can go loud !!! My wife was decorating and said she nearly fell off the chair she was standing on (H&S hasn't reached our house yet).

I feel your pain. With the nova being conisderably louder than the Atom. I guess with all the issues with sq on this release I feel we may be waiting a while for a fix.

This needs to be fixed soon, its becoming intolerable. Its now doing it when switching from other sources just had when switching to roon and Just woke up the entire house with it not switching off AV Fixed volume when switching sources.

Hello,

had this max volume issue with my Atom with initial firmware many moons ago. I was able to 'fix' the issue for me with re-installing the iOS app. Had a reproducible test case before, unable to reproduce the issue after the reinstall.

It doesn't help to reduce max volume setting btw, the Atoms always plays at 100 - so if you have something reproducible, make sure you have your remote nearby or even the finger on remote's mute button.

It's only ever happened on this firmware and support can reproduce it so I doubt very much its the remote app as I dont use it. Itonly happens when switching from analogue input which I have using AV fixed volume.
