TIDAL input not showing on UnitiQute2

Posted by: Juanis on 07 April 2018

Hi All,

I recently bought a second hand UnitiQute 2 for my bedroom which has Spotify native in the software. I decided to upgrade to the latest software version and was successful but TIDAL input does not appear. I have a Uniti so I am used to the system / software and think this is very strange. I have checked the input through the tools settings and the Naim app but no signs of TIDAL. Any ideas how to solve this issue? Thanks.

I would try a factory reset, which should fix it, for whatever reason it's not showing up.

Thanks David, but I have already done the factory reset. I have done twice the software upgrade and does not change anything...

And you have gone into Setup in the app and "Input Settings" and made sure Tidal is selected to on?

And when you say you have done the factory reset, this is different to the one that is done by the firmware update automatically?

Yes, I have done it at the end of the software update going into the settings - factory reset.

Did you check that your UQ2 does in fact have the 24/192 kHz hardware? Instructions on how to do that are on the installation instructions and in the Forum post announcing the update. Have you confirmed that the firmware is now 4.6 by looking at "About" in settings?

As far as I know the UnitiQute2 have the 24/192kHz hardware and currently works with Spotify. The update is showing correctly on the app.

Posted on: 07 April 2018 by David Hendon

I think all UQ2 do have the hardware, as long as it is a UQ2. But anyway as the firmware has installed I think that means it must have the right hardware.

I am assuming you are using an up to date app? But if you can see Tidal on your Uniti then it can't be the app.....

But I'm out of ideas I'm afraid. You could contact Naim support and see whether they have other suggestions.

Juanis, can you confirm that you have turned on the Tidal input in the Naim app? It’s under Settings / Input settings/ Tidal.

I too am having the same issue only with a UnitiQute 1. It does have the 24/192 board. Also after FW update to 4.6 from 3.9 the app with UQ selected constantly shows daylight savings time option. No matter if yes or no us selected it will go away then pop back up. I do not have a remote for the UQ but I do also have a 272 and SuperNait. Both have different remotes but neither works with the UQ. Any suggestions?

Quick update. I installed FW 4.4 and Tidal is now there and no issues with the app like I was having. Odd that going from 3.9 to 4.6 there was no tidal and issues with app but installing 4.4 over 4.6 seems to correct issues. Hope that helps the OP too.

Anyone in the US have a remote to a UnitiQute or uq2 assuming they are the same that I could borrow to set set this up and possibly get my harmony remote programmed with it? Crazy question I know but worth asking.

Is there a way to get 272 remote to control a UnitiQute?

They are the same, although your UQ might have an earlier version. But I have a 272 and a UQ2 and the remote works either machine.

There is a way to pair the remote and UQ. I need to dig out the details which I will do later but I suspect that your UQ is not set to the standard code. More later....

Hi Chris, unfortinately the TIDAL input does not appear in the app neither in the unity settings. The app is fully updated as I use Tidal with my Uniti.

Will try this tonight ! I was under the impression that was not possible to downgrade the software... thanks !

OK I think the reason your 272 remote doesn't work with your UQ is because the UQ code was changed from the default. You can change it back again by switching your UQ off, then on again and while the Unitiqute splash screen is showing on the display, press simultaneously the aux, i and disp keys on the remote.

If you want to read more about this, search for "Different IR codes for different Naim components" and look for Steve Hopkins' reply of 12:13 on 8th July 2013.

I seem to remember reading that 4.6 couldn't be installed jumping from much older versions of firmware - perhaps that was the problem?

Posted on: 09 April 2018 by Juanis

Morning, actually now TIDAL is showing  with the software 4.4... i guess its that i cannot jump a software version - but that is not explained in the software update manual . Thanks for your help.

That is very interesting. I have four streamers and the ones that were on 4.4 before are showing Tidal whereas the ones that were on 4.3 before don't show Tidal. I bet that if you go to 4.6 now, Tidal will be there.

It is in the manual, you’ve just missed it, it says you have to instal 4.4 before 4.6. The manual is very precise, but could maybe have benefited from more strongly emphasising some of the key steps.

Well I've looked in the release notes and in the firmware update guide for PC in English and it just says you need to be above 3.0

I've just gone back through the PDF and actually it doesn't mention it, so my apologies.

I knew I'd read something about it though and it does say something in the initial notes that were linked from the email I received, however it doesn't specify 4.4 but 3, so again I was wrong, too early for me obviously. What it says is.

Important: Before you make the update, please check your software version number is

3.x.xx or above. If it is lower, the update should not be made. You can check your

software version number by scrolling to ‘Version’ under ‘System Status’.

Thanks for the suggestion but I have tried that. I figured out the remotes were the same after posting. I can get the Qute remote to control the 272 using aux, I, DSP but using aux, i, 5 as instructed does not work. I emailed naim support and have already received a response. Thanks Phil. I will try 1,2,3,3,5 with aux, I before I do anything else. Phil says it's unlikely the IR sensor in the Qute has failed.

Posted on: 09 April 2018 by spurrier sucks

Tried all combinations and with that Phil has advised to send it in for repair. Not sure how much that will cost as the unit is not under warranty.
