nd555

28th of March and the press launch of the nd555 with a price of £12999.
Today when I enquired about placing an order Audio T have it on their system at £15000, I hope they’ve made a mistake but it’s not much of a hope.
Shocking.....
They probably meant pre-Brexit €. ????
Chag -
And the NDX2 is probably 6K by now...
No way.... must be a mistake
I agree it’s a mistake. The other mistake is an £8k price difference between NDX2 and ND555. As an NDS owner, I reckon I’ve already bought my last Naim streamer (unless I need to down grade in the future).
I do realise, by rather way, that there are others in the world who have bigger problems and are more deserving of sympathy than NDS owners ;-)

Seriously though, in four years the ND555 will probably be over £15k the way Naim raise their prices every year. I think it’s reaonable assume that many Naimees who currently own an NDX or NDS will struggle to justify that kind of expenditure.
Think I’ll be holding onto my NDS then. It’s does all I want it too, sounds fantastic so little chance of convincing SWMBO to invest. I just hope they don’t price themselves out of the market - it’s not as if they have the field to themselves. What we poor NDS owners would like to see if an internal upgrade of some sorts. I don’t mind keeping the green display as I don’t use it anyhow. Common Naim wotja think? Small price for keeping what must be a large-ish bunch of loyalists happy
The ND555 is aimed at the 500 series where both the preamp and power amp are priced around £20k with their specific power supplies. I guess at £12,999 with a 555PS the ND555 meets the target price bracket already. The problem for Naim I guess is that many potential customers will already have the power supply, so we'll need to be convinced that we really need two power supplies to get the most from it.
But given that the NDS has been used with two power supplies to demonstrate Naim's flagship amplifier, the Statement, would it be more cost effective (and an effective audio improvement) for NDS owners to buy a second PS rather than trading in their NDS for an ND555?

I assume the idea is that the ND555 with one PS will sound better than NDS with two - though until released who knows?

I think the issue is that it is limited by the platform, and short of stripping out and filling with ND555 content - which I guess likely would cost as much as ND555 - I doubt much difference can be made. But your NDS will still sound as good as it does now, however much better ND555 may be!

But that’s the point I think we take it too, in some cases far too, seriously.
Of course Naim are going to develop new products and revamp the range to align emerging technologies with customer demand. The effect of that equation is to have set price to cover all costs, sustain the company and be competitive.
So this means there may no longer be a NDS and the ND555 will be £15k or whatever. I think we’ll all survive
Either it’s a mistake or maybe it includes something else??
Naim have confirmed uk price of £12,999 inc vat.
Which Audio T store was this? Need to make sure they have the correct price. Thanks.
Might include a super SL interconnect.

Is the £13000 inclusive of the 555ps?
Sorry, NO

Lol. I was hopeful.
@yeti42, please let me know which Audio T store this was - you can send privately if need be - so any possible erroneous information can be rectified. Thanks.
I don’t want to replace my NDS and I haven’t upgraded the PS to DR yet. But if Tidal failed and I needed to revert to Qobuz than I would hanker for Chromecast. Also, we don’t know what future firmware upgrades Naim might offer for the new range. We do know there’s a lot more headroom for them to get creative.
Also, don’t buy the idea that they couldn’t make a streamer that halved the cost and performance difference. An NDS with additional computing power or an NDX2 with two burndy sockets you would do the trick.
It was Audio T Reading, they didn’t expect to see a price on their system yet but looked it up anyway and that’s what was on there so would have come from their central admin presumably.
OK thanks. I'll make sure Naim get in touch to ensure that they have the correct price.

Only its not 8K between a NDX2 and an ND555 really ... there are 6 different Naim streamers now...
ND5XS (£2k) ... NDX2 (£5k) ... NDX2 + XPS2DR (£9k) ... NDX2 + 555PS (£12k) ... ND555 (£20k) ... ND555 + 2x 555PS (£27k)
Quite reasonable steps really - each step approximately doubling the cost (the two power supply options just above and just below double the cost of the NDX2 by itself... if Naim developed a NDS2 there is only a small(ish) gap to fit it in, between the NDX2 with 555PS and the ND555 (with single 555PS), or you would be pretty much duplicating the price point of (say) NDS2 + XPS2DR at 13k and then NDS2 + 555PS at 16k.

Yes, if you look at it like that, you have a point. But as a NDS owner with a 555DR my only option is to stick, (potentially) downgrade to a NDX2 or trade in against a £13k upgraded streamer. With the benefit of the 4.6 firmware I am inclined to stick with my NDS as it is sounding superb.
You could also throw in adding the nDac to the lower price streamers?
