Static and Nac52

Posted by: Marc0209 on 09 April 2018

Hello,

My System consists of a Nac52/52PS/Nap135's/PrefixK/Akutate LP12/Krystak. I have noticed at times static will build up and discharge resulting in an audible click and activation of the mono and mute buttons on the top row of the Nac52.  This does not occur all the time, but especially when the wool mat on my LP12 sticks to a LP when removing it. I have my Prefix grounded to my Lingo3.  I have verified that my top plate and platter/bearing are grounded correctly.  My hypothesis is that this may be due to the fact that my tonearm(Akito2b)ground is floating.  With the Prefix fitted the arm is not grounded to the ground post in the table itself.  Has anyone else ever experienced or heard of anything like this?

Thanks,

Marc

Same thing happens on my 552 in dry, winter months. The static discharge seems to wreak havoc on our sensitive little boxes . I just usually reset the mono button and all goes back to normal- gives me a little lift as well May be something else but I doubt it...

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reply, I tend to think you are correct. MY Nac52/52PS and Prefix were both redone by Chris West at AV solutions.  I simply reset the buttons as well and play on.....

Marc- If Chris W did the rebuild I would sleep well at night. Chris does not cut any corners and his rebuilds usually test better than original Naim spec- first in the class in my opinion.

Same thing happens with my system. Especially if I've been sitting on one of the sofa throws my wife seems sound fond of laying across everything!

Once my LP12 starts with the static pop ..it seems to get worse till it is popping every minute or so

The solution I found is to give the record a real going over with the zero stat gun and this completely stops it

Other days it will not pop at all ...so weather dependent I guess

..I do notice if I'm barefoot or have rubber soles the problem almost goes away....if its wool socks its worsens.
