SL2 with Super Lumina

SL is much more flexible than NACA5, which helps. I'd say that you need an absolute minimum of 80mm behind them, preferably 100mm for the cables to clear the wall comfortably (measuring from the sockets). I dare say HH will be along with a definitive answer sooner or later.

I tried to post this picture yesterday but Imgur wouldn’t upload it. But it has now worked, so I hope it’s helpful. It’s literally a mm or two between the wire and the wall, but once bent into place it stays there fine. 

Thanks Nigel. That’s kind of you. My cabinets are exactly 100mm from the wall so it looks as though it is possible to fit them in. Part of me was hoping it would be impossible!!! Something to think about down the line though. I’m taking delivery of a 555DR this weekend as trade in for my XPSDR so looking forward to hearing what that sounds like with the 272.

You are most welcome. And a 555 too. You’ll be amazed at the improvement, and by what a 272 can achieve - well hopefully anyway. The SL leads are a wonderful addition to the system, though with the 300 needing two wires it’s not cheap. Still, as a lawyer with a ‘global mission critical communications provider’ it shouldn’t be a problem!! It sounds a lot more exciting than being a retired local government officer.

The speakers have always been this distance from the wall, which I find works best. When I first tried the leads I’d decided that if they didn’t fit in the existing space I wouldn’t have them. Unfortunately for my wallet, and fortunately for my ears, they did. But only just. 

Naim made a spade adaptor which would allow a closer to the wall spacing with the use of SL cables but only for the Ovators, which don't neeed it, not for their earlier speakers which might. This has saved me a considerable sum.

.....Or I thought I was! As you all know the 555 doesn’t come with a Burndy so I had to order a new SXPS with it back in early March. My existing SXPS goes with my XPSDR that I’m trading in. Having arranged a personal delivery with the dealer for Sunday I checked that he had the new Burndy as well as the 555. It turns out that the 555 the dealer took delivery of mid last week came without a Burndy suggesting that it was not, in fact, my order after all. I’m now waiting for the 555 with Burndy to come into the dealer from Naim. He’s been advised that it will be before the end of the week. Let’s hope so as I’m so keen to hear what the 555 does for my 272.

Everyone is aware that the SL speaker cables are directional; black strip on the resistor box at the speaker end and grey at amp end etc.

However I was not aware (nor did it say so in the instructions) that each cable is also designed to go in the left or the right channel terminals at the amp end and to the correlating speaker terminals.

At the amp end the black resistor boxes need to be facing up so that the Naim logo is showing. I realised that mine were the wrong way round (Naim logo facing down at the amp end) so I changed the cables at the amp and speaker ends. 

Just in case anyone else overlooked this small detail....

As it happens, the logos on mine are facing upwards at the amp end, but that’s more by luck than judgement. Both cables are identical and it makes no difference which you use for which channel. 

That was my view too Nigel. However I did read a previous post (I think [@mention:1566878604000897]) from a couple of years back where he was installing 45m of SL in his active S600 system. He quite clearly relayed that his dealer had told him that the cables were designed to be channel specific.

Either way it feels right to have them inserted with the Naim logo facing up at the amp end.

It does Nigel and the uplift in SQ was obviously dramatic when I switched them round????
