New Uniti range.

Does the recommendation for 3.5m speaker cable apply to the new Uniti range?

What does the manual say?

I can't answer your question, John. But I can wish you a warm welcome to the forum.

There is no mention of speaker cable length in the new Uniti literature. What it does say, though, is that "a range of speaker cable types may be used without risk of damage to the amplifier." This is quite different to the advice Naim still give for their Classic amps, and if it's safe to use a range of different cables, it must also be safe to use different lengths.

Thanks for the replies. I’ve been unable to find any recommendation from Naim regarding the Uniti range. I’ll have to contact them directly.

Yeah I use 3m of chord shawline - sounds great and theres no smoke comin

Thanks. I’m sure that the later designs are ok without 3.5 m of cable.

I would always go for a minimum length of 5m of NACA5. It indeed is the minimum length still really recommended by Salisbury for both impédance requirements and SQ. You will always wonder whether you have been too short or not and lengths below 4.5m do not resell easily. ????

I am using Chord EPIC at 2.5m. Reporting no smoke so far also hehe

It’s funny how this question receives mixed views. I’ve had mixed responses from Naim stockists.

Indeed

But I would much rather listen to experienced users which report longer lenghts sound better

Has anybody yet reported that with a new Uniti?

Good point Chris

I hardly believe this has changed marketly from previously Naim amplication

Personally I no longer buy cables below 2x5 mtr, actually I'm not in the market for really expensive cables such as Lumina or Sarum etc.

I do however understand if people don't want "wasted cables" lying around hiding behind furnitures etc.

It will allways be a compromise

I have TQB and Atlas Hyper in my setups, so not really expensive and I have the rack 4 mtr from speaker left, next to try is the Phantom from Witch Hat and the new EWA LS 25 perhaps

Following on from my previous post above, Naim’s instruction manuals give quite different advice for the new Uniti players compared to the Classic power amps (200,250, etc.) so I suspect that they must have different designs in this respect. Naim do seem to be a little reluctant to expand on this advice, probably because they don’t feel it is up to them to address issues of non-Naim cables over which they have no control.

I hear what your saying Chris

My thoughts were more related to years of user recommendations, longer cables sound better than shorter runs

Even my little Unitiqute seem to be happier with longer lenght, though I would not be afraid to connect a 2m or 3m pair to this, something I would never do with my pre/power

I need 5m for both my main system and my Atom, so I guess I will never find out for sure!

Contacted Naim regarding cable length. They replied as follows:

Hi John, it's less critical with the new Uniti Range and relates to the use of NACA5 as it has known electrical properties. The advice is still valid in that Star and Nova were developed using NACA5 and thus that's what we'd recommend for use with them to achieve the results we hear at the factory.

In view of the above I will use 3.5m NACA5 cables.
