4.6 - Am I being dim ?

Posted by: al9315 on 14 April 2018

Thought I would upgrade NDX to 4.6 - it appears to me I have to connect my PC by cable to the NDX - this means finding a cable the length of 2 rooms, or dismantle my setup and lug NDX through to PC - surely this is not correct?

Perhaps I just do not bother?

Thanks

Al

You might just need to upgrade to laptop before you can update to 4.6. ????

I don't think you'll find a USB cable that long, so yes, something will have to be moved. Or borrow a laptop.

Thanks very much, at least I had read it correctly. I've got an old Win7 laptop - will try that

Thanks again

You need to have your laptop connected to your router by cable or wifi as well as having the USB cable between the laptop and NDX. And your NDX needs to be connected to your router too.

The update won't run without both connections.

Just to ask you knowledgeable members——- can CD player ( CD555) or do CD player also need this update?I’m asking because a few years ago when my CD player came back from HQ , I was told that it was also updated to the latest firmware.

Thanks

No, these are just streamer updates.

Thank you - I just worked that out when I went through to the lounge where the system is, looks like I will not be doing update anytime soon

Before I put a proper wired Ethernet connection to my streamer, I always had the laptop on WiFi for the updates, and it worked every time. Alternatively, buy a very cheap, long Ethernet cable and run it temporarily from your router (probably under a fiver from ebay.)

Thank you - I will think about it - it had sort of crossed my mind, pity one cannot copy updates to USB stick  and copy them on ?!

If it wasn't for XPS I would just bring NDX to PC - will probably dismantle & do it eventually

If you can find your NDX's link plug, you can put that on the back of the NDX instead of the burndy and run the NDX on its internal supply for the update, so avoiding moving no the XPS too.
