Naim Atom Bit-rate display error (via iOS/Android Naim app)

Posted by: Beng Ong on 19 April 2018

HI everyone, this is my very first post on the Naim forum. I wanted to ascertain if I am having this problem or is some of you experiencing this problem too. My current set-up is a Naim Atom, paired with a pair of Focal Aria 906. I also have a Naim Muso.

Whilst streaming music from my NAS, despite music in 24bit, could in in configuration of 24 - 44/48/96/192 etc., the app display all sources as 16bit. However, the kHz representation is correct though. This error in displaying bit rate is however not so on the Naim Muso, as in when I play back the same exact file on the Muso, the display is accurate at 24 bit.

Maybe it's the OCD in me acting up, but hey, if it's a 24 bit, and it says 16. That's gotta be a problem. Be grateful for any response. Thanks. Kevin

I thought they fixed the issue of displaying the wrong bit rate in the last firmware update for the Atom. Have you done that update yet?

Hi David, thank you for the reply. And yes, I have updated the Atom yesterday but to no avail. I might persist and look around or perhaps a re-set might resolve the issue that I am facing. FIngers crossed.

Best, Kevin

Have you done a reset following the update?

Always a good idea after a firmware update.

Hey Richard, I just did this morning. Some of the previous miscellaneous bugs was rectified but the 16bits display error bug is still not resolved... Sadly for me. I wonder if anyone else out there is having the same issue as I have experienced?

Thank you Richard

Quick update: I've manage to resolve the issue of wrong bit rate representation. Turns out my Synology server was transcoding my media to a lower res, this is to facilitate faster browser playback. Which was (for some reason) turned on by default. Once turned off, my Naim Atom is operating in its full glory. That said, the sound can be a little fatiguing. Which I saw in other thread, would be a case of the new firmware update. Which, I will leave to ascertain for another day. Thank you @Richard Dane, [@mention:46478588067265635] for replying.
