Unity Core and Synology DS218PLAY

Posted by: Thorsten_L on 26 April 2018

Hi!

I changed my internal disk to a 960 GB SSD and I am very happy with the sound and the "no-noise-solution".

Now I think of adding a Synology DS218PLAY with 2 x 4TB.

What do I have to do "inside" the NAIM app so that the Core can PLAY the music stored on the Synology DS218PLAY?
I don´t understand the "WORKGROUP" setting within the app.

I read that the installation of the NAS is quite easy, but I want to be certain that my Core can play (read) the music stored on my NAS.

Also, I found this advice, but I can´t understand it due to my limited NAS knowledge.

"And regarding NAS storage, if you have a Synology NAS, there is a definite quirk in the Core's abiiity to see music shares on a Synology.  You must enable the local master browser! "

Thank you very much.

Found this too. Is this enough?

For a SYNOLOGY NAS drive:

instructions are for current DSM 6.0.2-8451 Update 9

 Open DSM

Open Control panel

 Open File Services

Under ‘’Win/MAC/NFS’ : click ‘’enable Windows file service’’

 Open Advanced Settings

Click: ‘’Enable Local Master Browser’’

 Save it by clicking APPLY

Reboot your NAS drive(s).

When it is back on line (Status light green), reboot your Core: stand-by then pull the plug, wait 1 minute, re-plug it.

Restart the Naim app (kill it and restart it new)

After about 5 minutes you should be able to see your shared folders, to enable your music shares and to promote some folders to Music Store

To play music from the synology through your core you go to settings on the core then manage music then music shares and select the folder from the synology that the music is stored on. It takes a while to read and log the library on the core but it should then show all your music on the core.
