Tellurium Black or Blue with Nait 2 and/or chrome bumper amps?

Posted by: Ian Brown on 04 May 2018

Hello,

I enjoy the sound of my Naim speaker cables but would like something more flexible.   I see the Tellurium Q Black cables getting solid reviews on here but mostly with newer Naim gear.

Will the Tellurium Q black or blue work with my Nait 2 or CB Nap 110?  and do I still need the 3.5 meters?

Many thanks!

I have had a 5mtr TQB on my Nap 180 with no issues whatsoever

Would not run lower than 3.5mtr myself and its well known the old gear sound better the longer cables

Best to stick with 3.5m or more. Black 2 is the better cable. Blue is more forgiving. A little less detailed and warmer sounding.

I’d be careful with TQ on CB / Olive amps. TQ doesn’t publish their cables’ spect (capacitance, inductance etc).

NACA5 is actually needed by those amps to help to stablise them. The minimum lenght requirement simply meant you were getting the right combination of the paramenters needed. 3.5 m as a minimum, 20 m as a maximum recommended lenght. Sweet spot at around 7-9 meters.

So proceed with caution....

Das anyone know the exact sweet spot for the Naca5,here in Sweden they say around 6m. And now Adam Z says 7-9m. Maybe it's depend on what amp you have,.....I don't know.Anyone here who knows the exact answer to this.

Sound advice from Adam Z.

TQ Black speaker cable specs can be found online still. The cable is very close to naca5 spec

Peder,

impossible to be exact and will somewhat depend on preference.  Some years back we tried different lengths at the factory.  For me, the biggest improvement was going from the 3.5m minimum up to 5m. The music just seemed to be able to breathe and flow better. 7m was perhaps slightly better still, but I could tell almost no difference with 10m, so I would say that 7-10m would be my optimum (of course, if 10m doesn't stretch to your speakers then it will be useless, in which case go for more), although I could easily live with 5m if need be.

Hi, I have 2m tellurium ultra black cables connected to my supernait 1 amp and Dali epicon 2 speakers- sound great to me.

Thanks Richard,.....then I can "sit still in the boat".I have now 6m.

I know exactly what you mean when you say...."The music just seemed to be able to breathe and flow better".

A year ago we did a test with the cables we have for the moment. One 3,5m,one 5m and one 6m.The same guy do the solder-job on all three cables,he's one of the best on that in Sweden....we send them to him for the solder job. After the solder job we run the cables in three different systems for 6 month, after that "burn in" we compare them.

And it was as you say,...the 6m.. "The music just seemed to be ably to breathe and flow better".But one more thing we notice, the bass-play was a little, little better on the 6m cable to.....not much, just little.

But very interesting information Richard, now we know what we have to "play" with.

I use Twisted 56 speaker cable from AV Options with my CB Nait 2 and 72/hc/140 for precisely that reason.  I happen to prefer its sound over NAC A5 and as an added bonus it is good value for money.

I have thought about the Twisted 56 from AV Options but they won't ship to Canada.  Adam's comments are well taken - but if Finkfan is correct that "TQ Black speaker cable specs ...is very close to naca5 spec" then I should be ok - hate to wreck some beloved gear!

Twisted RS 56 strand was Naim's original speaker cable recommendation and was used as hook up wire inside Naim speakers.  It's easy to buy and make up, you just want to get the twist right - loosely rather than a tight weave.  However, cryo-treatement, as per Av Options, is a bit trickier.

Thanks Richard!  I have sent an email to RS Audio looking for a Canadian distributor.  Cheers, Ian.

Ian, according to the RS Components website, the Canadian co. is called Allied Electronics.
