Innuos zen mk1 to supernait1
Posted by: Andy Widd on 05 May 2018
Hi,
Wondering if any one knows if you can directly connect an Innuos zen mk1 audio server directly into a supernait’1 to playback ripped cds or do you need an intermediary dac? Anyone done this?
thanks, andy
Andy, the Supernait has a decent quality DAC on board with optical and coaxial s/pdif inputs. The DAC is capable of handling up to 24bit 192kHz via s/pdif coax.
If the Innuos has an s/pdif output, either coaxial or optical, then you should be able to connect it directly without issue. I've tried to find a picture of the connections on the Zen but it's hard to see what's what, so you need to check. I'd be surprised if it didn't have one though, unless it has been specifically designed only to be a server over an ethernet network.
Thanks Richard. The Audio outputs are as follows:-
Analog Output 3.5mm jack Digital Output USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 supporting USB Audo Class 1, USB Audio Class 2 and DoP
so I guess it is not suitable for direct connection????
thanks for looking, andy
You might be able to use a USB to s/pdif converter such as an Audiophileo, Mtech or Gustard. What provision does it have to support something like the xmos drivers for this?
Thanks again Richard, I’m afraid I don’t know and I’ve looked online but can’t get an answer. I take it I can’t just attach the USB to s/pdif converter and away I go? I’m looking for good SQ so I think I should look for another audio server without the need for further interconnects-this inuous zen is a good deal on eBay currently!
Maybe worth calling Innuos and asking, they are a helpful bunch in my experience. A Naim server would be a neater solution, though, as they have SPDIF outputs where Innuos have gone for USB.
Good deal or not, it looks like the Innuos Zen may not be the right server for your particular requirements.
Richard, I really appreciate your help. Thanks, andy
A chord mojo dac has an usb input and pairs well with a supernait (1). Just saying ...
Hi
The Zen range is designed to either output a streaming signal like upnp or connect to a usb DAC. Both of which are not much use to a naim box , even with an internal DAC. I looked at using one with the Naim DAC, no go
