Munich

I am very very much looking forward to the show even combined with the Can Jam, I might also need to go two days instead of one to cover it sufficiently. In this post I will also provide you with a report as I hope others can do.
According to my Magazine the main setup will be ND555, statement and a Focal Grande Utupia EM Evo.....so let’s see
Wonderful reports Bert, with some great photos. Thank you for the effort to bring the forum your impressions of so many varied and interesting products from Munich.
I look forward to your reports on the ND555.

Hi Bert,
Great reports. Did you listen to the EAR-YOSHINO system? Did you note what speakers those were? Grahams??
Thx
Yes, they are Grahams. Grahams posted a photo on FB yesterday. Bert noted his thoughts about this system in his report, which you've quoted.
Grahams also launched 2 new speakers at the show, but their FB post gave no details. Doh!
Hi SB,
I was hoping to encourage a bit more from Bert: Was the demo of TdeP's updated reel to reel; What sort if music; etc.
His amps are superb, but his taste in music is rather different from mine. He recommends the Grahams LS5/9, which regardless of its presentation is too big for my 14x12 listening room I feel. Wondering whether the otehr speaker was the LS6 - and how that sounded.

Hi Bert,
I'll add my thanks. I think this is the best show thread I have read as you have given a consistent voice as you've covered the various exhibits. You've even got ne thinking about going next year!
M
Thank you Bert, excellent reports, next year i will be with you!!
Bon travail Bert! Bravo ! i give you 9,5/10 , just because there was no turntable’s photos. And Munich is the biggest show for turntables. But it was certainly your choice and i respect it.
Thanks for all the effort you put in Bert and the great pictures you posted, much appreciated .

The system wasn’t so much in focus, it was more about the record8ng process and how to get to a direct to cut record. yes they played two pieces. As it was music from Lyn Stanley it was jazz vocal music the system did a good job, but it wasn’t spectectular just decent. The music wasn’t really testing the system to it’s limits, so difficult to say what it was really capable off.

Remind me next year and I will put some more effort in the turntables. I don’t have one because of my cats I limited myself to streaming, and while I like the sound of black gold, I am perfectly happy with what I have.
It would also mean all kind of additional investments which are nice when money is growing on your back......, but when I checked last this morning this was not the case ????
Tim d. P used Grahams LS5/9
Wonderfull speakers, he did have some issues with bas performance on some music though, might be room too, I've heard same issues earlier from some larger Harbeth and Spendor boxes. Superb mids and very well paired with TdP amplication. Indeed tape and vinyl were very good.
The smaller Graham ones were LS6f I believe
Not sure they were on much, perhaps as monitor for Lin Stanley when she had some nice singings there
Not so crowded were the alternative hifideluxe show on Marriot hotel
French JMF and indeed Vertere/FM acoustics did some really nice sound there, not much on MOC could compete this level imo.
Back to MOC, The Focal speakers in large Naim room were terrible bassy and I left in a hurry, oh my oh my, they are ugly those large Focals. I would never give room to them.
Interesting stuff the old Western Electric speakers powered by Silbatone valve kit fronted by Schroeder and Schick turntables, simple quality check, people stayed longer here as they did in Living Voice and TdP sessions. Kondo wasn't bad either.
Unfortunately some large ATC speakers sounded hard and uncontrolled, not really expected
The new Chord TT2 looks good even their design is strange imo
I look forward reading more about the new Ceramic body Jico MC cartridge (HO) was damn close to buy it myself at reduced show price tempted by a nice friendly selling lady trying to put me on purchase list, she could have done if I had a turntable to match it.
A pity Naim show amplication didn't use Titan speakers, that would have been something.

I can confirm the small ones where used as monitor for Lyn’s voice, the story and some live singing on top of the album.
I thought it would be good to republish the interesting things I heard during the show, either from a musical perspective or a test you system perspective to start with the last category
Bert - once again many thanks, I vote you become the official Naim forum roving reporter, excellent pictures, insights and mention on non Naim items ????
Some more musically focused but still sometimes showing the system...

Thanks you are all too kind. A forum lives from it’s contributions. I have learned already so much here and got introduced to a lot of good music. So I just am happy that I can return something and as said before, because I write about it also focuses me more to deeply enjoy the event - normally you only go from room to room and afterwards have an average feeling and only the highlights stay in mind. Now I have enjoyed every room, and was really aware and sharpened also my own understanding of what sound I like and what I dislike.
Funny enough I had in former years a kind of sadness as I returned to my less established system. But nowadays I am happy when I come home and actually can confirm again what a great system I have.
I am very happy with the specific sound signature of Naim and I am happy that I was as lucky to meet the dealer and get introduced. So I didn’t end up with an emotionless system.
Ps the next large report from me will be on North Sea Jazz Festival. And I hope shortly after that to be able to write about my experiences with the ND555 at home.
Bert, you are truly an inspiration that we could and should do better on this forum.
I will add my thanks to Bert alongside the many others. Having done this last year, I know how much time and effort goes into marshalling photos, thoughts and words.
Particularly like the inclusion of some of the music selections too.

My cat used to like sleeping on my LP12 (with the lid closed!) Never caused a problem, even when it was playing.

Beautiful.
Worth the best system pic, Shoul have taken one!
Bert, Just a big thank you for taking so much time & trouble into creating a great write up (including some very helpful equipment & room shots) which has been so interesting to read each day. Your comments and opinions were also a very welcome addition!

Hi Bert, wanted to add my thanks for this incredible effort on reporting the Munich show, super useful and great reading. Your ongoing and insightful Jazz and Classical recommendations in the Music Room are a frequent boon and highly valued too. Thanks again. In a trivial effort to give something back, if you like the above RR disc I’d also highly commend this one if you don’t know it. The Music is very 1950’s/60’s English, but the more I listen, the more I love it and the recording is, well, reference I guess! Kevin

This is a wonderful album. IIRC it was Olaf at Music Line who introduced it to me for the first time around 12 years ago and was kind enough to send me a copy of the CD. Well worth tracking down a copy.
Thanks for the show report Bert.

Too late, I sold the LP12. There were complaints!
