Always love it when Naim get business advice from their customers.
Even now I can picture the Friday lunchtime scenes of jollity in the canteen..... 'Did you see that such and such on the forum?, what a laugh!'
I am very very much looking forward to the show even combined with the Can Jam, I might also need to go two days instead of one to cover it sufficiently. In this post I will also provide you with a report as I hope others can do.
According to my Magazine the main setup will be ND555, statement and a Focal Grande Utupia EM Evo.....so let’s see

True today is the day, will drive in a couple of minutes...
Audiovector has new sr8 Arreté model on the show. Very itneresting but surely too big and expensive to be rrrelevant in my setup.

no chance of the enthusiasm for chord going anywhere HH. You could always enjoy your lovely 272/300 system with the SL2...
Don’t worry, I do. It’s one of the few systems on here that actually delivers Naim Intended Performance...

Ahh! A new acronym discovery from the redoubtable Mr Halibut! I think my system's got good NIP, apart from that pesky, tiresome little Chord thingy dragging it down a couple of points.
I won’t claim it - it’s been used before. Credit goes to Analogmusic, if anyone.
Can't be long now til Hoopla introduce NIP members, or 'Nippers' as they will be colloquially known.

Tony, I suspect your system has SNAP - Serious Naim Audio Performance!
Hmmm .... brings a new meaning to having the Snip!!!!
And what is the meaning of a NIPple slip? Is that a naim system not residing on a Fraim? Or a burndy in urgent need of a massage?
Sorry - its Friday.
We could have a competition between Naim Intended Performance and Chord Realistic Audio Performance...
has anyone heard the ND555 yet ?
Read the J Novak point from yesterday. I presume Naim played in a high end system and did no comparisons to other streamers hence his comment that he could not comment on what the ND555 contributed. I can understand this only too well.
Naim are not really helping themselves sell a 13,000 GBP streamer then ?
The NDX 2 and ND555 should be on 2 similar systems to enable people to hear what the ND555 is adding to the table.

It's a show. Anyone serious about buying one of these new players would be auditioning them properly at a dealer and then at home in their own system.
some people are so serious they placed orders without hearing one

And your point is what, exactly? I ordered a 272, a 250DR and an XPS DR without audition. I did similarly with a 555PS and a 300DR. Are you implying that anyone who buys stuff without audition is somehow foolish? What about people who order a newly released car without driving it? Or a new washing machine without testing it with their dirty socks.

I think HH we're mixing issues here. I bought my 250 DR without the chance to audition.
The overall curiosity is that the NDS/555DR is also so good, what is there left to improve on (with the ND555?)
There was a sarcasm about giving business advice to Naim
the thing is some people would spend money on tickets and hotels just to hear the ND555 and such is the level of interest for some (who have already ordered it), it would be nice if Naim could enable their Loyal customers to hear how wonderful is the ND555.
Surely it is the flagship of the Naim sources, so why not give it a chance to be admired?
I can't understand any other way , surely?
I've been waiting weeks/months for reports on the ND555, and all we got so far is...
NOTHING.
Analog - it’s the silly grinning face that suggests you think they are stupid.
More to do with the shared passion for Naim ..... we are all guilty of it
And despite being a Chord fan, I still want to hear the ND555 ...... !

Indeed, but one would expect the demonstrator to want to impress at a show to raise interest in wanting to listen in detail, which isn’t achieved if the sound is bad for want of appropriate speakers.
It suggests to me that Naim either actually think it sounds good with the Utopias, or have been forced to do that by the parent organisation. The latter does not bode well as it is not doing Naim any favours, and perhaps they should lend additional ND555s to other manufacturers demonstrating more compatible speakers.

Indeed. I'm sure that a company that has 'only' been around for 45 years could do with a few tips from forumites...
Past success is no guarantee of getting sales today or tomorrow, as many a failed company has learnt. Only a foolish organisation thinks it knows it all, while here in particular it seems that, maybe, the powers behind them do not understand the market Naim serves.
I think it is impossible and politically incorrect for Naim to show off Naim amps with anything else but Focal.
ON THE OTHER HAND.
At some audio shows, Focal has been a naughty boy and been using Chord Dave and Hugo TT Dac for their hi-end headphones.
Why can't Naim use (at least) some of their Ovators ... ? They still got some left I think....

NOTHING.
Like myself, the few people who have been lucky enough to hear the ND555 up until now, have agreed to keep their powder dry until it's absolutely ready and shipping. Which is fair enough, as until then it's always work in progress.
As for Munich, it's ostensibly a trade show that lets in the public for the weekend. The trade and public alike go there to see what's new, what's what, and talk to likeminded and similarly interested people. It's not the place to make serious judgements on kit by listening under show conditions or to conduct comparisons or reviews. For one thing, whatever speakers are used they will doubtless divide opinion (have we really forgotten the amount of hate Naim used to get when they used their own speakers at shows?). A proper dealer demo or a home demo is far better for this. Which may be why there are no reports, or at least no reports that anybody would take seriously, on the ND555. Once it starts appearing in dealers shops, then I have no doubt we will have reports.
Oh, and as for placing an order on something like an ND555 before it's ready to go. I've got no problem with that. It's called having faith in a company and its products to deliver the highest level of performance, based upon a track record of having repeatedly and successfully done just that.
