Unable to open port to update firmware!

Posted by: Nic-collins on 12 May 2018

Having followed the lengthy discussions about the merits of the 4.6 firmware update I decided to take the plunge yesterday and update my UnitiQute 2.  Conveniently the USB lead was still plugged into the back of it from the last upgrade in 2015 ;-)

Having installed the USB to Serial driver I then foolishly allowed Windows 10 to install this weeks Major update......which breaks the driver!!!!!

Fortunately my 'other' laptop hadn't been upgraded yet so I used that.  Unfortunately no matter what I do I get the 'cannot open port' message when the Naim Updater is run.  I've been through every USB to mini usb lead in the house and tried changing COM ports but with no luck!  Anyone else had this?  The previous firmware update ran perfectly but of course that was back in the days of Windows 7

Have you installed the latest release of the Silicon Labs driver (i.e. the one with the compatibility fix for Windows 10 Creators Edition)?  If not, do so.

I have v10.1.1 which appears to be the latest on the Silicon Labs website, is there a later version?

You need CP210x_Windows_Drivers V6.7.5.zip.

Thanks for that, V6.7.5 now installed successfully on the latest version of Win10 and UQ2 detected and updating.  Clearly I fell for the old 'use the latest version number' trick ;-)

Bigger numbers are not always better!

Glad it's working for you.

I ended up with 2x versions,  unbeknown to me until spurred on by the SiLabs driver confusion I looked into what v.# I had (hangs head in shame) goodness knows how I did that or how long its been that way,   whatever it all worked OK.   I've since dumped them both & re-installed a new v6.7.5
