ND555

Notice this unit has 13 dr regulators.....so if you use a 555psdr ..... is regulation happening twice..... is this effective....??

i guess naim would not demonstrated nd555 with 555dr if the 555dr was not effective. And it can’t work without ps too. But why the 13 dr regulators inside, i have the same question....
I can only think that they have separated out some of the shared feeds in the original design ... it seems strange to feed the streamer with a clean dr supply that gets dr treated again....

some scientists here will give us the answer....
From the ND555 white paper.
do nds use dr regulators inside? for what the 13 dr regulators inside the nd555 and is the 555dr powering something else than the 13 dr?

I checked on Google and sure enough, I think found the answer...
"The vodka is quadruple-distilled, triple-filtered through charcoal and finally triple-filtered through Herkimer diamond crystals."
So, assuming the ND555 can be compared to an expensive vodka, we find that the additional filtration offered can only improve the end product. (I have to wonder whether in fact, Naim has discovered what Herkimer diamond crystals can do for a streamer, or even what exactly Herkimer diamond crystals are... perhaps the ND555 v2? )
It's getting close to bed time.
RJ, please advise which fine Vodka you are imbibing this evening. Gotta get me some.
Rjstaines has drunk too much probably, to make a comparing between dr regulation and vodka filtering. only vodka?
Computers use a number of different voltages inside, some generated locally, and each requires regulating - nothing to do with the main power supply. Pre DAC a streamer is a computer, just one dedicated and specialised and packaged differently. So presumably it means that the ND555 has 13 different places where voltages need regulating, and that it uses discrete components to do it instead of the ICs used commonly in computers. I’ve no idea how many voltage tegulators there are in any other computers, and no idea if other streamers like NDS have DRs wherever they have voltage regulation inside, though I suspect not because Naim’s move to DR came after the NDS’ design and maybe the concept of improving that in the NDS as an upgrade was either not thought of, or would require such a redesign of the circuit boards that it was left for the successor.

Well, it was getting close to bedtime. ...In the cold light of day this morning I have to admit, French Rooster, that your powers of observation are to be congratulated
Maybe that's why I prefer Irish Whisky to Scotch .......... triple distillation compared to double........

sweet yes, better you are right. Is there english expression for that, like gentle, soft or sweet madness?

Sacrilege!
Indeed. Surely he meant Irish Whiskey.
It's good to peruse this thread with a nice, post work, glass of Laphroaig in my hand.
Going down nicely...
Good heavens. It’s not even six!!
It's been an 'interesting' day... Blame Brexit !

You like the 'mild' ones, then?!
Well it is only Monday (and before 6 !)

Which one? Not that the bog standard isn’t great - it is, as are all the others I’ve tried! Coincidentally last year’s Caerdias a bit before my earlier post...

Just the 10 Yo. I'm not a Whisky aficionado by any means but i do enjoy a little drop of this.
