Delays in finding newly added albums
Posted by: Campmusic on 20 May 2018
i use dbpoweramp to rip cds to a Qnap NAS. I find I can’t find the newly ripped album ... it takes 12-24 hrs before the tracks are listed on the Naim app.
I am wonder if this normal?
The Qnap is the TS 412 and is 75% full. but I have the same issue is with the backup Qnap TS 231, which is half full.
This may depend on the server you are using. I have two UPNP servers running on my Synology NAS, the stock-standard Synology version and MiniMServer. When I add new music it will appear more or less immediately in the Naim app when browsing the Synology server but not so MiniM. I imagine the delay is due to the server re-indexing the media library... no idea why one server can do this in an instant and the other not!
If you load Asset onto the Qnap, albums will show up on the app in seconds, literally. Which upnp server are you using?

Not sure about MinimServer on a Synology, but on my QNAP NAS, after adding newly ripped or downloaded tracks to the NAS, it is necessary to do a rescan. I use MinimWatch to do this. The process rarely takes more than a few seconds after which the new albums/tracks show up straight away in the Naim app.

Good to know! Thanks
Same when using MinimServer on Synology.
I too use MinimWatch to trigger a rescan, and as you have indicated, it only takes a few seconds to complete after which all new albums show up in my Linn Kazoo, Lumin or Naim apps.
Thanks for all your comments and observations.
I have Asset, Minim and Twonky on my Qnaps, and I use whichever is suitable to my listening (although my folder setup works pretty well for my needs). I will check out minim-watch, which sounds useful.
I found the problem. When I ripped the album yeasterdy for some reason it did not add the wav suffix. I manually added it this morning and everything was fine. Thanks again for your comments - much appreciated.
