Olive Servicing

My second system is 52/Supercap/250 (into Kan’s).  Only getting occasional use these days but given a vintage 2000/2002, in desperate need of a service. (Actually, I think the Supercap was done a good few years back, but long enough ago to be due again).  Clearly the Supercap/250 will need to go back, but does the 52 head unit also need attention?

Many thanks!

Gavin, yes, the head unit also requires a service.  Depending on the age there are also some upgrades that can be done (POTS8 board is very worth while if yours is earlier than POTS7), so best check with your dealer

Thank you Richard. The 52 is 2002 vintage, but I think I remember checking that it is POTS8.

In anycase, I am looking forward to getting these back on song. Of late, I have focused on the main system - although with DBLs, this was long ago relegated to a separate room and the 52 is now seeing some good use.

Quick follow up question Richard - is it best to book it in before sending?

You can only have a factory service via a dealer, so you would need to arrange it with one rather than direct with the factory. Also try Class A in Sheffield, who are Naim authorised, and do a good job, probably cheaper too. If you are able to take it there yourself, you can often arrange to have it done the same day.

Yes.  I think these days it's best arranged through your Naim dealer who then obtains the required RMA for return to Naim's service dept.

I’d suggest sending it to Class A. The same work, less money and a heck of a lot quicker.

Jus a thought. If you have an item of naim equipment serviced by a third party that is authorised by naim (i.e. Class A or others). Does naim service history that naim have get updated?

No.

Happy to recommend Class A, based om my experience, over a number of years and items, including 82, HiCap and 250.  Some items can be done While You Wait, but you need to check & pre-book. I know a HiCap can be, but an 82 & 250 cannot.

No, the Naim Service History does not get updated, if ANOther (albeit Naim approved) does the work.

I took my 82/Hicap/2*135s to Class A last year, Darren turned all 5 boxes round in the day while I wandered around Sheffield City Gallery.

My 82/NAPSC is booked in at Class A for a same day service. Darren reckons about 2 1/2 hours ☺

Another fan of Class A. Darren fettled my 72/HiCap/180 reet champion, a grand job  - and fast to boot  Just give him a call and organise it

Darren is tremendous, but he can't do DR upgrades. The advice I was given by another Naim dealer was to book it in with them about a month before, and then send it off so that the turn around minimises disruption. Better still, programme it in to be done whilst away on holiday so that it's ready to pick up on your return. I was quoted a two week turn around. Just priming Bi-Frost.

Thanks for the feedback.  Sheffield isn’t very close to me, so will probably go with Naim.  Quoted £1000 for all 3 units.  Given that I think I should hear a big improvement that should be good for another 7-10 years, I think that well worth the investment.  All credit to Naim for standing behind its older equipment.
