Power Distribution Block

Posted by: nbpf on 29 May 2018

Has anyone tried the PowerBlack Distribution Block from Custom HiFi Cables Ltd. as an alternative to Music Line's Netzleiste and Powerigel? What are your impressions? Thanks, nbpf

I don't specifically use the distribution block but have other CHC mains cables / hydra

I can confirm they are well made.  Are custom made to your requirements if requested.  Can be altered by the man as your system changes at a fair price.

If you would benifit from a better cable / block ..these are as good as any I.M.O

I'm very happy with a MusicWorks Reflex 'Lite' here (and Naim Powerlines). It costs under £500 in the UK. There is no information about the European distribution situation on the website.

Good luck.

I've always found the Russ Andrews hifi power accessories to be very good and do what is says on the tin.Don't know if they are available outside the UK.

I'd chuck the Grahams Hydra into the mix. A no nonsense bit of kit and doesn't need the space something like the Powerigel needs so the leads exit the cylinder without being constricted. Just change the UK plug for the appropriate one for your territory.

And I've found him to take a £4.00 from B&Q socket ...spray it with de-oxit and charge £25 for it ...but that's buisness...

People seem to like it. Not a RA fan myself (bought a Kimber iPod lead once so keep getting the catalogues) but to be fair to him, he does offer long evaluation periods and returns. His business seems to be doing ok so people must like Deoxit treated B&Q mains sockets...

To be fair the MK sockets from B&q are fine

And Totally agree that he hides nothing...with long trial period etc

Given the calibre of your system you might want to give MusicWorks' latest top-end block a listen. The grandly titled Reflex Ultra Gen 3 is twice the price of you current Reflex Lite but it is a bit good:

I got an Olson Block NOS from eBay for £13 disconnected the light and it is great for my non Naim stuff and Grahams Hydra for the Naim.

I have a 6 way CHC powerblack distribution block (3years now)- it’s excellent. Very well made and in my system a reduction in the noise floor over a base Russ Andrews power block I was using. Also a very tidy solution.

I tried the top Reflex a while ago, I prefered the lite but that didn’t gain much on my home made block (using MK sockets). They may have improved it of course but listen out for the way the music hangs together, that’s where I thought the ultra reflex of a couple of years ago fell down.
