Dac v1 with olives amplifier?

Posted by: Ivelin on 31 May 2018

Hi all, I have a Dac V1 system with a Nap 200 SBL I think it sounds great. I'd like to try and sound the olives with my SBL and think about buying Nap 250 vs 140 directly in Dac V1. The first question I want to ask is whether it is a good combination of olives and black and should I have a Nac 72 for the magic of the olives? And the second question, who should choose? I will buy it from eBay and I will not be able to hear it in advance. I listen to music at moderate levels in the room - 3.5m - 5m. Please excuse me for my poor English. Thank you very much!

Hi Ivelin,

The DAC-V1 works really very well indeed with the NAP100 and NAP200 black power amps, as they were its intended partners.

I use an olive NAP140, as it was spare at the time and an ideal size for a desk-top system.  It is a more capable amp than the NAP100 but not as capable as the NAP200.  The DAC-V1 and NAP140 work together beautifully.

If you are driving SBLs, then I would suggest an olive or CB NAP250 over a NAP140.  It will be great with the DAC-V1.

re DAC-V1 vs NAC72, then keep the DAC-V1 if your source is digital.

If however your source is analogue (i.e. turntable, cassette deck, AM/FM tuner or reel to reel, then a NAC72 would be more appropriate.  Note that a 72/250 also need a hicap or supercap to power the pre-amp, as the NAP250 does not have a power supply rail for a pre-amp.

Hope this helps, FT

Thank you very much Foot Tapper! Dac V1 is my main source.
