Uniti Core backup issue

Posted by: Laxton on 08 June 2018

Hi All,

I’ve just purchased a Uniti Core and I’m having some problems with backing up the Core to my Synology Nas.

The Nas is accessible from the Core and the Core managed to write some files such as a backup folder in the share. However, the backup fails less than a second after starting and the status shows error with no other details.

Backing up to a local hard drive works fine.

Does anyone know I should go about troubleshooting this?

Thanks!

Does the Core have the latest firmware. There was an issue with Nas backup with the old. I have a Qnap Nas and had issues backing up. Created folder in Nas called Naim backup. I then had to remove all hidden folders such as recycle bin that was created automatically within the new folder or the backup would fail, another words the backup folder had to be completely empty. Using the Naim app, select new backup and navigate to the Nas backup folder that you have already created. Fingers crossed! Rich

Thanks Rich.

My Core is on firmware v2.5.

The target network mount folder is totally empty with no Recyclr bin.

I’ve tried to trawl through Naim’s support on the Core and the information on network sharing is quite lacking.

Naim are working on the Core seeing network shares more reliably so I suggest you wait and see whether it gets fixed in the next Core firmware update, which hopefully shouldn't be too long now....

Does anyone in the family have an android phone that you could download the app onto? It might be worth a try. Also would be worth phoning Naim support rather than just waiting for the next update, I found them very helpful in walking me through problems. Use the feedback tab on the app to document your problems, Naim read that but don't usually read the forums. Sorry I can't be of more help  Rich

I have a core and a synology and all backs up fine.

Make sure in the network settings on the core that you put the riht user name and password in for the share on the nas.

The network settings on in the section to setup local shares.

I use the admin user name and password as it gives the core full rights to the synology.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a go.

I’ve tried setting the username and password in the network settings and the Core can see the network shares. However I’m still faced with the same issue where the backup process throws an error immediately after the backup begins.

I've just run a backup to a USB drive, all went okay. Now trying to update the backup and it's wanting to reformat the disk to back up. I had it unplugged between time. Does the back up drive need to stay connected, or am I doing something wrong?

No you don't need to keep it connected between backups. If you restart your Core (not just wake it up) it will probably sort itself out. I have reported this issue in the beta group as I have met it too.

Thank you David, that’s very helpful. By a restart, is that the long press “deep sleep’ mode followed by a wake up?

Best take the power off completely, wait a few seconds and then start it as per normal. This is a restart I am suggesting not a reset!
