Posted by: mpw on 09 June 2018

Hi

a quick question..

what kind of cable is recommended / normally used for the RCA sub out of the Naim SuperNait 2 ?

at present i am using a normal 1 pair RCA interconnect from the SN2 sub out to my subwoofer .

regards

I use two JL fathom 110 subs with my SN2. The fathoms have stereo inputs with one of the RCA inputs useable for mono operation, so I just connect the RCA lead for the left channel to the mono input on the left sub and the RCA lead for the right channel to the mono input on the right sub. The subs then operate in stereo, which is noticeable, even when cutover is set to 40Hz. The cutover is a slope, so they are probably putting out meaningful output as high as 50Hz, which is very directional. They blend very well with my Harbeths. I love them.

For cables, I just use two Blue Jeans LC-1 RCA cables, which are constructed of Belden 1694 with Canare connectors. Very good cables for not much money.

I run in very similar configuration.  Blue Jeans LC-1 stereo RCA cable from SN2 to JL Audio e110 subwoofer.  ATC SCM19s are blending in incredibly well, and brought a tremendous increase in scale to the music.  Dealer came to the house to help set up the sub, which was tremendously helpful (even had I done it myself, I would have always second guessed my choices in phase adjustment &  crossover point).

I consider the e110 addition to the ATC 19s to have been a phenomenal success – blend really well (great to hear same results with Harbeths).

Hi KIshekhar

I am contemplating another subwoofer build to make it a 2.2 rig...

might take some months to get the driver and the plate amp..

essentially i want to have the exact same subwoofer

But i understand the Hypex DS4 plate amp is not in production anymore...

but still available at a few stores - last stocks

lets see..

Personally i am enjoying the sound.. i have a large hall and so i think a 2.2 will be good.

Some of you might advise me for a floorstander but the Merlin TSM's are going nowhere.

Does the supernait 2 sub out - mean than the SN2 cuts out all the HF and send is out of the sub-out RCA jacks on the back panel ?

Meaning this is not a full pre amp out ??

presently i take RCA cable from sub out and into my plate amp which also has a crossover

is the SN2 cut out the HF from the signals on the sub out jacks, then can i Defeat the crossover on my subwoofer plate amplifier ??

i didnt want to start a new thread and i thought i would continue with this one..

Edit Note : On the Naim SN2 site - the product specs mention AUDIO OUTPUTS - Variable sub..

what does this mean ?

"variable sub" probably refers to it being a variable level output - as it should be!

The sub out is a full frequency signal. It’s called variable because it is controlled by the volume knob.

Reply from Naim

The sub output on the SuperNait 2 is a full range, volume controlled output - it is not filtered as the specific filtering required would depend on the settings required on the sub to integrate it in with your main speakers.

Thanks very much...

As for cable I use one that my dealer gave me. I do believe that it should be shielded, as mine is.

The first cable he gave me has a fault and it picked up some foreign (Russian I recall) language radio broadcast, which I could hear through the sub when nothing else was playing
