ND555 signals open evening
Posted by: Japtimscarlet on 15 June 2018
Went to the signals hifi hifi open evening for the new nd555 last night along with quite a few other eager customer's
We were in the main "chapel" area and first up was the "old" nds with one 555ps though statement amps and focal speakers (fed from a uniticore)
Sounded wonderful really..and I was thinking..it's going to have to be something special to top this.
The naim rep played a few tracks to get us used to the NDS and relaxed
Then came the demo compare track ( I think it was by first aid kit?) First on the NDS ..it was wonderful...then on the new 555 (also with one 555ps) ..and as it started I heard a funny "clunk" sound
I looked round to see if anyone else had heard it ..only to realise it was a collective dropping of jaws from around the room
Yes ...that good !!!

I thought they were using an all-500 system?

Yes, Tony, we were. The Statement was there and beguilingly powered up but it was felt most relevant to use 'just' the 500 components.

Rest of the set-up, please?
i.e. streaming cables used, switch ..
Posted on: 15 June 2018 by Signals UK
Nothing exotic, other than that the cisco 2960 switch would have cost a lot once upon a time. Ethernet cabling from the wall sockets was QED Performance. Audio cabling all Super Lumina and Naim powerl ines to everything. Including the kettle.

I thought the tea tasted good Alastair!
I'd take that as a criticism!

I thought the sofas were rather comfy too.

Fair point. It was coffee

I purchased a refurbished hi line from Alastair at a fair price with warranty and paperwork shipped across the pond, his communication and customer service were exemplary. Listening to a ND 555 and Statement system, I can only dream. You Brits get to hear all the good stuff. Alastair rocks!

I agree. If only I could get up out them with a modicum of dignity.

My mistake then on using the statement
It was just when I saw the volume being adjusted ...the statement light glowed
Sorry to mislead...but all the more impressive..

So when are we going to see this ‘Statement level streamer’ that was rumoured to be in development?

Isn’t it scheduled for rigtht after the summer?
It can’t be, summer ended about a week ago!

Good one Chris!
Not in this part of the world though.... It started in April and by the looks for of it will continue well into September. I think Vivaldi missunderstood - it’s only winter and summer now

No, he had it exactly right. It’s just that you get summer and winter, and here in Wales, we get spring and autumn.

Can anyone tell us which (First Aid Kit?) track was used for the comparison?

Anyone running a CD555 fancy giving a comparison to that? Would be an interesting demo at some point.

So sorry to have missed this event. Hopefully I’ll be able to arrange a listen within the next few months :-)
