cd3.5 woes

Morning all
I listen to vinyl mostly exclusively these days and my cd3.5 only comes to service for late night low volume listening every now and then. A week or so ago I decided to switch it off for lack of use but last night I turned it back on only to find out it won't read any cd's anymore. There's no disk spin and the Err message comes on straight away once you close the drawer and press play. I left it powered on all night and a while ago I tried it again and guess what it's working again.
My question is why does it refuse to play from cold? I might be willing to sell it but there's no way I will do it knowing it has this issue.
Any ideas?
Cheers

how old is your puck? That was generally the problem when my CD3.5 gave Err messages. You can tweak the rubber buts to eke out a bit more life. Wonder if it's working better from warm because the rubber is grippier?

I've got three pucks of different ages one particular quite recent but the problem persists using it. I'll order a brand new one just to be on the safe side but somehow I've got the feeling it might not be just that ...

It's getting old and it may be a sign that the mech or associated componentry is starting to fail. Just enjoy for what it is and until the mech decides to die for good.  It may be tomorrow, it may be next year, but it may also be many years hence.

Thanks Richard. I'll still get a new puck and work it from there. If it solves the problem, great. If not, I might just take your advice.
