Nap 200 service.

Posted by: petzhou on 23 June 2018

My 2003 Nap 200 has just gone to Naim for a long overdue service. Looking forward to having it back, enjoying the benefits of the service and that few days that you think you won't ever want to upgrade anything ,ever again!!

Enevitably of course the upgrade bug will bite - and I would appreciate your advice.

Having been chastised previously on the forum I now know the original 200 cannot be  DR'd.

If I add a Hi Cap Dr does it achieve the same result. Or should I change to a 200 DR OR!!! is there benefits in a 200 DR and a Hi Cap DR ? (overkill?)

Appreciate members views on the best path.

Many thanks

Peter

The DR part of the NAP200DR is just a DR regulator on the small pre-amp supply. Therefore, if you're using a dedicated power supply on your pre-amp already, there's not much advantage to changing from a NAP200 to a NAP200DR, apart from the latter being a little newer and with whatever minor updates (if any) were applied when the newer version was introduced.

As a 200DR owner, I would suggest that you go for...... a Hicap! Unless, of course, you fancy going for a 282 first!

A hicap dr is in theory better than a 200dr as a power supply as it is dual rail not single rail. I’ve done the demo at a dealer 282 / hicapdr / 200dr against 282  / 200dr and to be fair there wasn’t that much in it. There was a big difference between an unserviced 2004 nap200 and 200dr when put on the end of a 282 / hicapdr so I’d enjoy the benefits of a service for now

I have Nac 202/Nap 200/NAPSC (all used but serviced) with Kudos C20 and I can tell you that adding a HiCapDR made my system SING! Great upgrade for £900 used
