CD players

I notice that Naim is down to just one CD player

I currently have CD5 XS and would like to keep it going, how long will Naim support it?

Would it be worth buying a new CD5 SI and keeping it in reserve as a back up

I have heard that unused CD player mechanisms can deteriorate if not used, is this so?

Could Naim allow CD users to register with them to receive a message if they propose to discontinue CD to permit a chance to buy one before they become obsolete

Initially I had CD5i (italic) thinking the CD5 XS a bit too polite and unengaging

When I upgraded my Nait 5i (italic) to the XS I revisited the CD5 XS and found it had another dimension especially as regards detail and so bought one

I wonder where the current CD5 fits in now being the only choice for a new machine

My cd5xs is treasured.. pop a disc in and glorious music.. I don't have to update or battle with IT server tosh. I dread it dying one day which is always possible. Yes I have to hunt through racks of CDs but then I find albums I've forgotten I've bought so it's a treasure trove of chaos!

Its the successor to entrylevel CD5i and its later mk II Italic version

Both not my cup, so hope the Si betters them

Thanks SJW

I think we need to be careful not to loose the capability to play CDs at a good quality level

Vinyl never really went away and has come back strongly

I feel CD players will follow  a similar path

I recently bought an early CD and was impressed by the thickness of the disc, the better quality printing and the substantial feel of its case, that is before I experienced the quality of replay

I spoke to Naim and they hope to keep the CD5 XS going for about 20 years
