Can you answer in just two lines, please?

To the following question: you, who have heard it but never bought it, who have had it and changed it, who have moved to the model 2 or to separates; you who haven't been happy with a Supernait, will you be so kind to tell me, in just two lines, why you didn't like it? Two lines.

Thanks,

Max

(No intention to discourage positive replies, but I am presently only interested in negative opinions.)

Had a first adopter SN2 for a good few years.

Slightly thin upper midrange eventually became irritating.

Exam rule number 1 - Always read the question atleast twice.

Sorry Max - I conflated the ‘Supernait’ & ‘model 2’ in my mind and jumped in with a less than useful answer.

Must learn to slooooowww down.

Performance of he original SN can be changed by adding a sep. PSU. Perhaps this scenario will take more than two lines to explain, to be honest I don't think I ever gave it a chance that way. I did with my SN2 and still haven't concluded finally.

Phew.., hope its within two lines, a bit like beeing in school again, I recall my teacher demanded many pages doing freestyle????

SN2 warmer and slightly muffled/ less control in comparison to a 282/SC/250. Good amp though, I would happily buy another with different speaker/ support and cabling choices, if I was going for less boxes...

Stressed is another way of putting it, it’s like a background noise that is only heard when it stops, at least in the short term. With the Nait 5  it gradually crept into my conciousness and once there refused to leave. A speaker mis match perhapse? Hearing a CDX2/SN1 into Rega rs5 I didn’t find it a problem, in fact that seemed quite a nice little system but I didn’t hear it for long and already had the 282/hi/250 by then.

No, actually your remark on the 'thin upper midrange' might turn out useful someday... Thanks anyway for your reply.

Reminder, to those who are so kind and willing to share two words: my question is:

Why those who don't like the SN1 don't like it?

Just this, nothing more. Thanks,

M.

The presentation of SN2 can be dramatically altered with different interconnects and/ or mains cables.

5si gives you a lot of the same experience.

Me too.  But that didn't mean I disliked the SN.  It's a fine amp and in some ways I preferred it to a 202/200, but, increasingly, I found myself yearning for more transparency.  After the change I felt closer to the musicians, and the musical communication more direct.

Max, I'd say your OP is to blame. I read "model 2" to mean SN2, hence my reply.

As for the SN2 responses that came after your clarification(s), I guess folks don't read threads all the way through, so you may be doomed by your OP and the previous SN2 replies.

My fault. I didn't realize that no question is too simple for people who spend their time on a HiFi forum.

Thanks anyway.  Bye.

I thought the “model 2” was referring to the SN2, but Massimo asked who had moved from SN to model 2 (SN2), or separates, and why they preferred it to the SN. At least that’s the way I read it. My answer was referring to my SN

It was exactly so. Thanks. A ray of hope through the clouds of muffled brains.

Bye.

I like my SN. I like it more with the pre owned HCDR added recently. Have tried both SN2 and 202/Napsc/200 both with and without the HiCap into my allaes and couldn’t be bothered upgrading. They say there is synergy happening with SN/allaes though. For what it’s worth ????
