Help: is a HDX case temperature of 24C too high. No Fan
Posted by: Paul Quigley ie on 27 June 2018
My HDX fan never comes on but the case is a bit hot and the device is going into a please wait state.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Paul
Is 24C a typo?
Even 42C would be OK
’Please wait’ most likely means network connectivity issue.
If your HDX is at 24 degrees C you must be keeping it in the fridge! My Unitiserve is running fine despite the fact that the temperature outside today was 32 degrees, which is totally unheard of when you live at 1000' above sea level on a N. facing hillside in Wales. Have you checked the internal temperature sensors of your HDX?

Exactly, my NDX runs 'luke warm' at 42'C, maybe 36'C when its idle
I would restart the HDX and if that doesn't fix the "Please wait" message check the network connections and restart the router, then restart the HDX again once the router has finished starting up.

Wait! My passive speakers are at 29C also.... But then again so is the temperature in the room today.
OOPs 42c.

Oops yes 42 and the fan never comes on?
My Superuniti is 44 degrees C at the moment, playing quite quietly in the background and that doesn't have a fan...

Is that the temperature of the case? With a Unitiserve, you can check the internal temperature of the various temperature sensors inside, as well as the fan status, so I imagine you can do the same with an HDX. I'm not sure if it has an automatic shutdown like the Naim power amps, though. Yesterday the highest internal temp. in my US was 49 degrees.
42c is the temperature of the external case.
An overnight shutdown and restart has sorted it out for now. Bit concerned that I have never seen the fan come on!
Only Naim could say what temp they set the fan to kick in. But considering the case is also the heatsink with Naim, 42c is not a temp I would expect a fan to be needed on. My fanless NDX gets much hotter in one spot and it has never given me a day of trouble.
By all means, ping Naim support if you are concerned. Doing so costs nothing and you can share the official response here for posterity.
