possible lightning strike

Posted by: jsaudio on 29 June 2018

We had thunderstorms at home with lightning yesterday while I was at work. Neighbors said lightning was close and thunder "shook the houses".

When I got home noted no loss of power, clocks displayed correct time and didn't get message from NAS when it is shut down even momentarily.

NAP 300,NAC 272 with PS555 were on,however when I tried to play, I got garbled music output barely audible if I turned the volume up, possible hum from NAP 300 noted. I shut everything down, waited a few minutes, powered everything back up and seems to be OK with a brief listen last night. No hum either.

What do you think? Any damage provided more critical listening seems good.

Thanks

Seems you had a lucky escape.....any possible reports of lightning I always power the system down.

It sounds from what you describe all is fine....

Yup, seems you were lucky, although Naim kit is pretty resilient to a mains spike for the most part.  A simple power down and then up again should clear any futzed logic.

Thanks for the reassurance.

BTW any way of protecting from this since we can't always predict possibility of lightning .

The only way to protect against lightning strike, whether direct or close by, is to ensure all is completely unplugged from the mains, aerial, LAN, cable feed etc..

And to have suitable insurance in place, just in case...
