The GD 272 strikes again...

Had a friend over today, and demoed my Naim system - which is now hardwired to the Vortexbox by CAT6A - performed flawlessly. Has been doing well ever since I gave up the ghost on wireless performance, the price being a cable snaking through my dwelling, but hey, I live alone so no one else to have to please.

This evening, before going to bed, I wanted to hear one or two cuts. That freaking thing will not play. No music. When trying from the app it shows playing, but the screen doesn't react on the 272. (The app shows the cut is playing.) Tried running it with the Naim remote and even from the buttons on the unit - can navigate to a cut, it gives the appearance of starting the cut, screen goes blank almost immediately, and pressing the button on the face of the unit shows at the song selection phase.

Turned off the 272 for a good 5 minutes, rebooted the music server. No change...and it can't be LMS because the SBT works like it always does. Too bad he can't teach his overpriced cousin that trick. The flipping thing was working fine 5 hours ago. The only sound I hear is that of my b@lls being broken (again) by this piece of gear.

This piece has easily been the most frustrating and biggest pain in the ass I have ever had in my audio equipment career (this from a former n-Vi owner), and for what it sells for, it is inexcusable. As I have said before, when it works, it is great. It simply spends (way) too much time not working. ..and this state of affairs definitely has me concerned that it will need a service, because I don't see anything else left to try.

I'm sure with its weight it would make a lovely door stop...

There was a famous and thoroughly well-respected poster here who frequently extolled the virtues of his system...and then discovered that his ‘Bariks had been out of phase all the while. True to his upright nature he took it on the chin. Many, many times ????

Not many on the web admit gaffs. Respect.

I hooked my SBLs up out of phase after a move many years ago with my first Naim system, and was so freaked out I called my Naim dealer, the sound was so warped. How happy I was to find out all I needed to do was flip a connector 180 degrees.
