Nova display panel gap
Posted by: Mercky on 02 July 2018
I’ve noticed the front display panel on my new Nova seems not to be fitted correctly, there’s a gap on the left which you can close if you push the display in and then it pops back out if you release pressure, also the insert in the front groove seems a bit weird where it meets the middle groove, it just ends with a non flush end and looks a bit unfinished, is everyone else’s like this too? Maybe it got a knock in transit but all packaging is perfect, back to the dealer for a replacement I guess which is disappointing.
Disappointing but will be sorted with a replacement I'm sure.
Was with my dealer today and he had another Uniti in stock which was exactly the same so it appears to be a feature! Poor finish IMO but not the end of the world I guess.
There was a problem withthe Star as well. The bottom Naim illuminated bar across the front dropping off. Mine was replaced and now ok. NAIM changed the production technique.
So can anyone else confirm if their Nova or Star is like this? Essentially if you push in the top left of the display panel it moves in and out slightly leaving a small gap of about 1mm, it’s not fully fixed as the right side is, the front groove is therefore slightly wider on the left then the right. As I said it seemed pretty much the same on a Star i looked at briefly in my dealers but it seems an odd design detail on a premium product.
I can't see anything like that, grooves line up on mine, but I'm not sure I understand what you're seeing, I think I'm missing your point. Mine all look right to me.

Thanks Eoink, so if you press in the top left corner of the display panel does it give a little? The zoomed photo above shows the slight gap between the display panel and the main body in the groove that runs front to back
Nope - mines rock solid. Unlike the logo strip along the bottom
Ah, I see what you mean, I wasn’t interpreting the picture at the right scale. I’d never noticed before, but yes there is a slight gap on the LHS which closes in tonthe right, about half way across and I can move the screen slightly, then it comes out again.
Weird, I’ve had the Nova about 9 months, but never noticed it, now it’s obvious. (Admittedly I don’t look down at that angle very often as I use the app rather than the volume knob, and it’s not time for its annual dusting yet.)

Thanks for checking and sorry for pointing it out! Hopefully it won’t bug you too much now that you know it’s there but I have to say it does bug me a little to have detailing like that at the price point of the Nova but admittedly I’m a bit OCD about things like that. Anyway I feel a bit better knowing it’s not just an issue with my Nova, it seems its the way they are then so I’ll just have to get over it, maybe some delicately applied adhesive would sort it out and carefully mask off the area first.
I can't quite relate to the picture, perhaps too much light/flash as the bit on the right looks mirrored.
It's magnified and there is slight asymmetry on the bottom right alignment.
Can't say I've noticed anything similar but to be honest I rarely look at the display and think it's superfluous apart from a numerical volume level - the colour screen is a nice feature, I just don't need it.

The mirrored bit on the right is the top of the display panel looking down, if you look down on your unit from above and press in the top left corner of the display panel you'll probably see that the panel moves in and out on the left side only leaving a small gap as per photo
Here's mine, dark block on the left is the screen, light grey vertical bit to the right of that is the groove, then the brushed metal body. You can see a tiny gap between the groove and the main chassis, closing as you come w. It doesn't worry me at all, as I said I'd never noticed it, but as Mercky asked I checked and it was there. (and you can see some lovely dust particles picked up the the camera.)
And no worries Mercky, it isn't causing me any angst.
I just checked my Nova which is a first production build and that gap does not exist. It may not be bothering you now, but if you ever trade in or sell on, they will knock the price down. So I would get on to the dealer or Naim.

Thanks Eoink, yes that's pretty much identical to mine. I wonder what Naims official line is on this?
