Backup strategy

Posted by: jverlen on 07 July 2018

i just bought a Core and want to be careful in my backup strategy.

if i attach an external drive to the Core and run a backup does it backup both the Music folder and the Downloads folder?

similarly, if a restore is necessary does it restore both folders or just the Music folder?

answers to these questions will tell me what size drive to buy for the backup and also if i need a separate backup approach for the Downloads folder.

thanks!

Ok. Well you may have to wait for the next firmware update....

David,I ended up just pulling the USB drive out of the Core, transferring the new music on my laptop, and replugging it into the Core. This worked fine, the only thing I noticed was that it took several hours to rescan all the albums after I plugged it in again, all done now though.

Glad to hear it worked. I don't know how the Core's rescanning strategy works to understand the time point. Perhaps it would have happened sooner if you had ripped a cd once your USB disc was reinstalled. Also did you try restarting the Core and see whether that triggered a rescan?

I think you will find it's all ok to find the downloads folder on your network when the next firmware update issues.

I did not restart the Core, just plugged the USB drive back in,then I looked at the total number of albums...it was gradually increasing as last night passed.

Yes I'm sure that's perfectly fine. I was making suggestions to speed it up, but anyway as with so many things, a little patience goes a long way!
