Unitiqute2-Temperature

Posted by: GuyPerry on 09 July 2018

Hi All,

Just a quick question, I use my Unitiqute2 as a streamer into Nait5i (fixed AV) and Arivas. (CD5i not getting much use these days and NAS coming soon).

Therefore I'm not using the amp section, it still seems to be running quite hot, 46 deg C during this warm spell.

It is cited on isoblue, with regular spacing (2nd shelf down with TT on top shelf), admittedly with not much clearance, should I move it to the top shelf, as this seems to reduce the temp by a few degrees, or is this operating temp normal.

Was testing my son’s Qute over the weekend. It started off at 32deg but after two hours of upnp replay It got up to 45deg. Sounds like yours is not far off.

My Qute runs warm too and I also do not use the amp section. Think I read in the manual the operating temp. Mine was in line with that.

My UQ gets hot too

Even on topshelf now in Europa summer

Believe its the DAC even all my inputs are disabled apart from internet radio.

I have it turned on when using it only, not 24/7

Likewise - another UnitiQute2 user here who’s little box of tricks runs hot. Even when used as a streamer only feeding into my Nait2, it still ran unexpectedly warm. I may fry an egg on it later.

The amp should run reasonably cool under normal circumstances. The part that gets hottest is the streamer and DAC section (lots of ICs etc..) - IIRC, it's located closest to the top of the case so uses that as a heatsink.  So if it feels warm to fairly hot on top, it's probably working as it should.

Thanks all for putting my mind to rest.

I bought the UQ2 SH,to replace Chromecast and to integrate with Muso QB, so without warranty, i did worry.

Cheers

I just reached under my desk and placed a palm flat on my UQ2. To my shock my hand sunk into a soft warm shag carpet. My hand came away covered in grey fuzz. I really must dust under there more often.

An inch of dust aside, it is on 24/7 and heavily used. My IR thermometer tells me it is 36C at the hottest point.

What temp does the Qute say it is? Under tools and system settings, there's an option to view its temperature. My reading of 45deg was via this method and not a thermometer.

Hurray for my fancy IR thermometer. The UQ2 internal sensor agrees. Factory Settings also says 36.

My room temp is capped at 26C.

But I still don't think 45 is a temp I would worry about. Maybe you drive more difficult speakers than I do.

n-Sats in my case, but I suspect my room was quite a bit warmer (with no air con to rely on).
