My new Nova, some questions...

Hi all, just got this Nova but I have a few problems...

Firstly, is there any way to make the pre amp outputs fixed?

Second, will the unit respond to standard infra remote codes, or is it RF only?

Thirdly(!), neither the front or rear USB sockets seem to work. I have various HD's and sticks with music files on copied from my Mac (it finds them ok using Asset) but I get nothing. They work fine in the car and when plugged into my Auralic Altair streamer (for sale).

Hope you can shed some light...

Remote is rf only... don’t know about the rest as I’ve only had mine a week

The preamp output is taken after the volume and balance controls, so (as far as I know) there is no way to make it fixed/line level.

None of the new Uniti range incorporates an IR receiver so RF only.

What file format are you using on the USB memory devices. Supported formats include NTFC, HFS and FAT32. Apple file formats are not compatible with the Nova.

Thanks guys. I thought as much about the remote.

The HD/sticks are formatted in FAT32. Files are mainly High Res from Qobuz. Play fine on everything else, including my previous NDX.

I think it’s faulty...

As for the pre out, that’s mad!

Sadly it may have to go back.

It's a pre-out on the new Unitis, not a line-out, i.e. for adding a power amp, not for using just as a source into another full system.

As for the USB sockets, if the stick is FAT32 formatted and the file types supported then they should work. If not, time to get in touch with your dealer as there may be a fault.

Hi Richard,

The files are just copied of my Mac and it plays them fine from there via Asset.

I think it must be faulty.

I guess I was hoping that I could reconfigure the pre out into a line out like the majority of modern high end kit.

But of course, this is Naim!

Its a shame as I love the streaming side of things, miles better than my Auralic.

HFS+ is an Apple disc format. The Nova supports AIFF and AAC/ALAC.

My one doesn't! It appears to have a faulty usb input.

However, having had it a couple of days now, it sounds so good. And surprisingly, it drives my ATC scm40's really well. Telegraph Road was seriously powerful!

Just need a good phono stage now...
